You bring up a good point. At this time Bimmercode only supports up to F87, which is fine for battery coding on G87. When you get to the Battery Registration part on Bimmerlink, you can see the value is successfully read at 60Ah (instead of 90Ah), which is what we previously coded the new battery at using Bimmercode. If sitting for long periods of time, you can opt for the Antigravity Battery Tracker to monitor voltage as needed from your iPhone/Android, otherwise you will need a LiFePO4-specific charger as not to damage the battery. Because it costs $1,000.
And it doesn’t work in various temperature conditions. To name 2. If it worked in all temperatures, this is something I’d consider when/if my original battery died. Say the AGM battery is $500, and this is $1,000, I’d pay the premium. For most use cases, paying $1,000 to reduce the weight of the car by 39 lbs (not sure where the 40 lbs figure came from lol), it’s a no for most people. You can’t feel it, does nothing for the car, but sure losing weight everywhere is beneficial. If it wasn’t for the downsides… It’s like saying you’ll remove the rear seats. Saves even more weight… but you lose the rear seat, and the car gets louder inside. Everything has a purpose and a reason. |

no driver + full tank F:R 52.2 : 47.8 total 3762 lbs driver + full tank 51.9 : 48.1 total 3929 lbs so without fuel front will go up another 1%? making it 53:47? no 50:50 also that's static when you drive there is constant weight transfer. when you brake this car it will be something like 60:40 - 80:20 depending on how hard you brake hence porches are 40:60, during acceleration the rear is weighted nicely, during braking the rear doesn't get too light - so it won't drift as much, but we all want to drift, so we get the M2 |

Because reducing weight is valuable. It improves acceleration, braking and turning (specially on transitions). It reduces consumables on track (tires, brakes). It makes the car more lively and enjoyable. 20 lbs or so by going to forged wheels, 40 lbs or so by going to Li-Ion battery, alone are a drop of > 1.5% of the weight of the car. Not eart shattering, but meaningful.

Lowering weight pays dividend everywhere. And I, as a driver, can do nothing about extra weight. I have no idea why you are being so derisive and argumentative. We are just sharing ideas about how to improve our cars. You don’t need to use any of the ideas. Cheers.

Any insight as to why the G80/G82 is more complicated to swap the battery? Doesn’t the M3/M4 already come equipped with a Li-Po battery? |

Reading this thread thinking about all the stupid shit lotus owners do to shave 16 grams.
I’d spend $1k to drop 40 lbs.

Will this work on a 2019 M2c?
To my understanding there is no Lithium setting on the M2c? But I have read people install these on their cars. |

Anyone have issues with cold charging of the lithium batteries? I build custom lithium battery packs (12v 100ah-200ah) for vehicle surveillance packages. In my experience the lithium batteries don't like charging below freezing. I get around that by installing automatic battery heaters along with the BMS. Different use case than a vehicle starter and accessory battery but I am curious about others experience.

There is a Lithium setting in Bimmercode for your F87.

I was thinking about static battery tender charging. Then I realized I never even said that. I'll catch up one of these days

BMW are legendary with car balance.
Small or Large they are all near perfect 50:50 Could this not be in their equation to have extra weight in this spot. To change could effect? the handling of the car I wonder 🤔 |
