Bag 'em, the less air across tires the less oxidation damage they take. Keep 'em dry. Don't stack them if you can avoid it.

But honestly? Unless you drive very little, this is all pretty marginal stuff because performance summers wear out so fast. You'll typically burn the treads down before the rubber compound breaks down. At least in my experience. These aren't 80K mile rated tires.
Why do you recommend against stacking?

I thought even below freezing was fine as long as they are not load bearing.

The smallest the rims can be is 18” due to the massive rotors and brake calipers. I have an old Infiniti g35x and I will let that take the abuse of salt on the road. The next thing u have to worry about is the perelli pzero4 run flat summer tires it comes with. These need to be place in temperature control storage basically extreme cold temperatures will cause damage to the tires requiring replacement n they are not cheap.
FWIW I was able to find winter tires that fit the stock wheels for $2k. Not the ideal winter wheel, but I would rather spend money on lightweight forged rims.

The BMW dealer was able to get them... Will be mounted on car arrival. They are Pirelli Winter Sottozero. I believe tire rack has/will have them as well.

If they are just going on the car for unheated storeage some all seasons may be cheaper and there is better availability.

Posting this again for those that didn't see it in the wheels/tires forum. I got a pair of rear winter tires from this place and they were already delivered. Brand new, BUT made in 2018. Based on my internet searching and a talking with local installers, should be just fine for a season or two. Saved $700. Had to get the matching fronts from TireRack, however.

One option that might save a little is searching on tirerack for G80 M3 winter tire package and you will see a nice OZ wheel option 19 inch square setup 20mm offset and winter Pzero BMW star tire comb for 4300 with tax and free shipping.

I ordered Michelin Pilot Alpin 5s from paddelshifterz and spent slightly more than half of that tire rack amount ( super fast shipping from Germany but $$$$) and plan to use on OEM wheels, 19 front and 20 rears to avoid having a set a wheels I really don’t want.

Living in Canada all my life. Using my E90 335i RWD since 2008. Was in North Bay Ontario until 2011, brief break from real Canadian winters in Comox BC 2011-2014 (light snow only twice per years lasting a couple of days at most) then, back to brutal winters in Edmonton central Alberta since 2014.

Dedicated winter tires and adjusting your driving is key. I love to let the car slide in the right situation and I encourage it. It lets you learn to deal with slippery surface so that you don't panic when it happens organically.

I only had trouble ONCE. It was in Nov 2021 when we had freezing rain followed by snow during a night. I had to be pushed by others several times that day.

My ex-wife still has her 2007 E91 328xi AWD since new. XDrive is fantastic in snow. That thing is a tank.

My thought before I decided on keeping my car in the garage for the winter was to just get a cheap set of wheels/tires for the winter. This way you don’t pay for the mounting of different tires twice a year. Also, the winters tend to be harsh on the wheel finish as well even if you are on top of cleaning them.
Many people(myself included) are selling 19” wheel/tire sets that cost the same as just the winter tires for the stock rims.

Here's a $2,500 wheel/tire package I got. Cheapest I have found. Also, they're 19x245 so replacing tires in the future will be cheaper. They also have a19x275 option as well. As a bonus, wheels are flow formed and light weight.

I would just worry about 245s with dry performance. I know it will be better in the snow, but on my old 135i, I went too narrow and couldn’t push the gas too much with the traction control intervening.

I have generally seen guidance to stay above freezing, I assume it's because that's a simple rule to follow. You can store tires below freezing, probably, but how far below freezing, and how long? Dunno so I play it safe. So 32F/0C is a good rule of thumb.

Stacking puts a lot of pressure, possibly hundreds of pounds if the rims are in, on the shoulder of the tire on the bottom. It can cause deformation, I've been told.

My dealer option was square with 255 or 265 at $3600. No thank you.

Agreed. This question gets asked a lot. I do not know why people who have kids and need to travel with them often consider a 2 door coupe and ask if it is doable...especially when they currently have larger cars and SUVs. It is situations like this that these cars get bigger and bigger every year. They can't be everything to everybody.

OP only you can decide whether you are willing to make the sacrifices that will come with this car and the needs you are looking for the car to do.
