Has anybody cut open an E90 resonator (Not rear mufflers)?
I'm looking to improve exhaust flow and wondering if anybody has cut open the E90 resonator (The one that's different to the E92 X-pipe)?
The pipe layout is kinda weird and it'd be interesting to know what's going on in there. It'd be easy to tell if there are gains in changing it if we could see it. |

I still wish I didn't have mine cut out so I could have just replaced my secondary cats and put in glasspacks for mufflers and end up slightly quieter... Ah well.

I made you this incredibly accurate reproduction of the inside of the resonator.

Thanks guys. I'll wait to hear from Doug at FrankenTurbo regarding backpressure improvement after removing secondary cats then decide between that and doing a custom 3.5" single system.

I am looking at doing the same but not for flow just acoustics. I did the pe mod to an e92 exhaust and found it stupid loud. So thinking if I I just do the resonators on my e91 exhaust it should just be a slight bump in sound

I personally wouldn't remove the resonator. You can do the PE mod, but just cover half of the perforated holes instead of all of them on the right side muffler only and leave the left side as-is and leave the exhaust valve intact.

A stock e92 exhaust is the same as the e90 but an x pipe instead of the resonator though yeah?

Sorry to thread jack, but I was wondering if anyone has tried downpipes + secondary cat delete + resonator delete (x-pipe)? i currently have catless downpipes but it is too quite for my taste. Would deleting the secondary cats and adding an x-pipe in place of the resonator give a good sound? I haven't heard a video with all three mods done

Move over, I've got a Dewalt AND and welder... Plus some shops don't seem to like doing custom work.. As in your muffler isn't busted so why are you here? My money is as green as everyone else's, if not greener.
