Lacking 360 camera in today’s day and age is pretty egregious. Especially considering a base 2 series has the option available.

i agree, but clearly wasn't a deal breaker for many of us. we saw the value in what was being offered (a right sized M car with a proper M engine) and put our money down.

anyway, don't want to derail the thread any longer. excited to see the new colors, i think VRM or PBM might end up giving me some regret ultimately.

Glad I ended up ordering a g80 last month instead. I was hoping for voodoo blue or purple for the g87. Portimao is nice though.

Too bad on the Cognac. That would be nice with Vegas Red and Portimao Blue.

Can anyone confirm if individual is coming for this and the 3 series given the recent posts about colors like voodoo blue, twilight purple, and java green coming? I’m assuming that’s alluding to individual capability at the Mexico plant.

no one can confirm this yet. there is the possibility that this list is incomplete at this time and other colors will be offered. but individual remains a question mark.

Wouldn’t it be nice if BMW offered the lizard green that Porsche launched the 992 911? I feel like an outrageous color would suit this design so well. Even Audi has a green on the RS3 that is louder than most of these colors…

Moving up a performance / pricing teir and losing features that a cheaper car has is odd to me. Other than the engine....what features are you getting that the 240i doesn't have ?

So G87 has no cooled / ventilated seats , no 360 or front camera, less color options, etc
The truth is these desirable options and colors will be added later on in the life cycle of this vehicle to keep it fresh and exciting. As the cost of the platform amortizes, it’ll make for financial sense for BMW to add more options likely gated behind special editions and life cycle refreshes.

Update:

I'm seeing paint code '490' which is 'Special Order Color' indicating individual colors will be available. I cannot however see what colors will be on offer or how much it will cost but for comparison on the G80/2 it's a $4,500 option.

A lower trim 2 series has some of the options I explained but the more expensive one doesn't ?

I like the car its just doesn't make sense to me how thats asking too much.
There is some history with this model you may not be aware of. Back in 2010 or so the M2 did not exist, and the smallest M car you could buy was the V8 M3. The M boss at the time saw the opportunity, and between customer demand for a smaller & cheaper M car and the existing 1 series, the 1M Coupe was born. If I remember correctly it was only offered in 3 colors (black, white, and orange) and 2 interiors (both black with either blue or orange stitching). It didn’t get an “M engine” and borrowed the turbo 6 from the 35is range. It did get a wider track, suspension bits, brakes, etc from the M3, along with a required 6-speed manual. The intent was to have an entry level M model that could be fun while still being affordable.

The first M2 kept that idea going, initially with a non-M engine as well, and received more options and better hardware as the years went on. The latest M2 is the best equipped model in this lineage to date. It does still have its roots in the parts bin, which is honestly a good thing since the parts in that bin are pretty darn good. You can’t get any color you want, and you don’t get some of the goodies from other models. You do pay less though.

No 360 camera is admittedly whack but it is what it is

If you got all the stuff from the M4, you’d effectively be getting the same car for $20k less. As it stands you get all the stuff that matters performance wise, and none of the stuff that doesn’t. You even get options included that you have to pay for on the M4, such as the full M traction control. The current M2 is a performance bargain and has a ton of potential, and it’s barely been decontented at all especially compared to the previous M2. People will always find something to complain about though 😬
