Sadly, there is plenty of truth to this, but at the same time I know of many long-term BMW customers that have left the marque for Porsche and for a magnitude of reasons.

The M240i rear end and the front looks better to me...the shape flows better and the rear deflector are too big on the new M2, IMO

Definitely. I think it tends to be the aspirational goal and logical next step if a P-Car makes sense for your lifestyle.

The way I see is Porsche aren't the best all around but they are so good and so ahead of competitors in some categories that it's hard to go back afterwards but like you said it has to fit with what you want/need because they are expensive and often lack badly in some aspects (space ) vs a more traditional vehicle.

To me I see Porsche as the natural next step up from BMW. I'm a diehard BMW fan and have owned 3 (soon to be 4) BMWs.

Porsche is pretty much superior in all aspects except it's out of my price range.
I'll get a Porsche 15 - 20 years down the line. But for now I can't afford to drop 150k on a Porsche.

Ehhhhh, superior in most aspects……assuming we're referring to the 911's and Cayman's of the world. As an only car, the BMW is the better choice for somebody who needs an all around vehicle. My 992 can't handle the full spectrum of daily duties like a G80 can. Like I've said before, my 992 can barely manage lugging around my police gear. I have to spread it between the frunk and the back shelf, and even that's a pain in the ass with such limited space. Good luck getting supplies from Lowe's/Home Depot, paintings from Home Goods, a grill from Walmart, etc. home in a 911. You can do all of that in a G8X.

I saw the car in Melbourne today also. A manual in ZB. There were many people being shown the car although no phones were allowed. The car looks very aggressive and will definitely make the current M2 look plain by comparison. I saw a current M2 outside afterwards and it instantly looked less aggressive than I had previously thought.
The rear looks good to me and the angles look better in reality than in the pics that I've seen. I agree with the original poster's comments about the rear especially around the reflector area. The black diffuser is also more visible than in the pics which helps as it seems to disappear in the pics.
I also agree with the comments about the parking sensors especially at the front where they look like an afterthought and have had to have black plastic blocks added to push them out from under the bumper. I felt that the front kidney(?) grilles was the least appealing part of the design as the black grilles looks too set back from the edges.
I liked the side which looks clean and aggressive without the vents. Those fat sills and wide front guards in particular look great. The slim profile of the side windows looks very sporty.
Interior looks great and those carbon seats (said to be the only option in Australia) look amazing. Small patches of blue toward the shoulder area and flashes of red in the lower cutout. Steering wheel looked small diameter but not sure if it's the same as M3/4.

Agreed. When I saw the last last generation, I KNEW that I had to buy it! This one makes me feel like my next track car will be a GT4 :

Whilst it's not something that appeals to me it's still nice to see the new M2 make it into production. The looks are the least of my concerns with this car, that colour really was a bad idea though imo.

I should have gone down to check it out today. Can't wait for the official release soon.

I like it! Being at the show today I got to see the evolution of E36 M3 to current generation and each generation takes a step forward with the level of differentiation from the base car and aggression. Seeing the new C63 videos is a bit underwhelming and they don't look so special. The new M2 definitely stands out and looks fast standing still. Currently considering putting my name down for down for one.
