First, a huge thank you to the OP for such a straight forward report. Excellent info.
Next, I’d like to ask all those that have posted “looks don’t matter as much as performance” to do us a favor. Please post a pic of your girlfriend or wife and let us better understand your perspective. 😀 |

Just to add:
I took a look (with the public) at the Motorclassica M2 today. A few things to add: - I'm 99% sure the flared guards are the same as other 2er, or put another way, all 2ers get the M2 guards. But the panel under the door on the M2 is different and wider. There are no guard extensions as seen on some European sports pack M240i s. - blue paint is non-metallic, surprisingly. - tyres on this example were 275/19 front, 285/20 rear Michelin PS4S. - rear end looks better in person than in the photos I've seen before. - grille opening is passive (as expected). Grille and lower grille are both gloss black, along with centre of brake duct intakes. Also rear diffuser area. - headlights are the black shadow-line lights (as expected) ie not the ones with the gold trim - carbon fibre roof - carbon fibre trim on dash and centre console - I think the rear spoiler is the same as on M240i |

Surprised how many lack the knowledge of this car and what it gains from the current M3/M4. It will have good capability for power and brakes. Gearbox as well. Looking forward to this iteration of the M2.

The flare "guards" as you put it are most definitely wider since the m3/4 suspension is fitted to the car meaning it'll be in the neighborhood of as wide as one of those. But to you personally the m240 looks just as wide? |

Besides, that looks like a mini 8er and BMW will make very sure not to cannibalize those sales, however minuscule they might be. I don't understand those "why can't the M2 look like this 150k+ USD car" (or even "why can't it get the front of the 800k USD 3.0 CSL") opinions. It'd be great for the M2 of course, but it will never happen. |

I know it uses the M3/4 suspension, but the M3 is only 50mm wider than the standard G42. Looking at the car and at pictures, I really can't see a difference in the shape and width of the flared guards. You'd think they would have to be 25mm wider per side (unless maybe a different wheel offset to fit the suspension under the guards, or something????). Maybe the M2 flares are wider, but if they are there's not much in it. Not like the previous generation M2 which was visibly much more flared than the F22.

A few of my friends saw the M2 this weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't make it but I will see it the next few days anyway as it tours the dealerships. I can confirm from friends who are familiar with M240i that the M2 is much wider with arches that are much more pronounced. Most also commented that the car is muscular and purposeful. I have a feeling that once we all get over the initial shock, this will look great.

At least it sounds like the fundamentals are there for a good driving and decent looking car. Reflectors can be deleted in a few minutes so not terribly bothered.
I do worry that the car has grown in size and power such that it may not be such a fun street car, but will reserve judgment till I drive it. But safe to say I definitely would not be buying the first model. Will wait till it gets refined into a CS or something similiar. |
