Of ALL of the ///M’s I’ve owned since 2001 (…two E46’s, three E9X’s, two F8X’s), the ONLY one that ever gave me issues was one of my E46’s. I was one of the first to have a blown S54 that BMW replaced and then subsequently provided a 100,000 mile power train warranty. The turbocharged motors were flawless.

I remember 1-series cars overall being too "quirky looking" and it turned off a lot of people at the time. It didn't gather the mainstream appeal BMW wanted, which is why the 1 series was discontinued. Can't blame BMW for giving up on the smaller cars. After all, they bought Mini to sell into that market. I liked the 135i personally (never got a chance to drive a 1M), but I don't think it sold well. |

I dont know about Model 3 or Cayman, but - I have a 997.2, so thats the last of the 911s with hydraulic steering, and I have driven it on track. And I also drove Taycan. In the city, on daily driving, Taycan is scary similar to my 911. I didnt go on track with Taycan because frankly it is a massive heavy sedan and its not something I want, but Taycan steering is super nice I think. Very good car.

For some of these "purists", the M3 E36 already was not good (too fat next to the E30), then M3 E46 was not a pure M (too civilized compared to the rough E36), the E92 neither (a 1600 kg M3? And where's the straight-six?), then it was the turn of the F80 (a turbocharged M, are you going crazy??), now with the G8x they are almost dying. Let's see what's next, the best M will always be the previous one for them. We'll get over it. |
