Brake Pads
read numerous blog entries on brake dust and squeals... I've got plenty of dust but zero squeal..(guess I'm lucky) but I want more 'bite' feel... I got a recommendation from Girodisc about set of pads from
Counter Space Garage.. in 'Spec CP Performance'...I have not seen these pads mentioned in any previous post... Has anymore tried a set of these pads ?..... |

The stock pads, which are Brembo, have a hell of a lot of bite. If that is your concern over dust and squeal, I would stay with stock. |

Seconded. Not sure what "bite" is here, but have you tried switching your brake mode to "Sport" to see if that's what you want?

I put a set of ISweep 2000s on this week and just washed the car and I’m super curious to compare the dust level. Bite is excellent and the squeal is gone!

I'm putting the same pad on my X3 MC soon & we'll see how it turns out.

Apologies about the barrage, but this is my single complaint that I would really love to fix. |

The ISweep pads are not the lowest cost option, but that wasn’t in my purchase factors to be honest. I went with them based on the feedback I was tracking from this forum and the folks in the M3/4 forum. Regarding warranty, I’m sure if my rotors warped or something went wrong with the braking system down the road that BMW would try to blame the non-OEM pads, but it’s not something I would worry about personally. Agree the squealing was really annoying so I had to try and fix it and this did the trick! Now if there is also any reduction in dust I’ll be an extremely happy camper! I took a picture of the wheel with about 3 weeks of dust and a rain storm mixed in and will take a picture of them again in the same interval for comparison and post it up in a few weeks. |

It took me all of 20 min on my wife's X3MC, honestly the easiest pad swap I've ever done. The rear parking brake was not difficult to retract manually. I found a youtube video that showed exactly how to do it. I've decided on a new 2023 M2 and the first thing I'm going to do is replace the pads after I pick it up next week.

does it turn in while being compressed simultaneously?

It is not like a traditional rear caliper retract. The parking brake is motor driven with a lead screw that positions the piston to a reference point that the parking brake operates from, depending on the pad wear. The motor either has to be operated to disengage the parking brake completely via ISTA or an aftermarket diagnostics system, or the hack is to unbolt the motor from the caliper and to manually rotate the lead screw to allow the piston to be fully retracted.

Ah... I get it The rear brakes have to be placed into a service mode to allow the piston to be pushed back in. Then re-activated and it goes through a compression and release cycle to re-learn the piston position. Thanks for the clarification.

Nice to hear this man. Can't wait to see the photos you post up soon of the brake dust comparison.

The dust is easier clean than the oem brembos, they are mildly less dusty and the dust is less noticeable. They're not low dust ceramic pads. After a track day I may have some brake noise just as it comes to a stop - depending on how the day went and which track I went to - but driven on the streets, it quiets down again. With the high heat capacity of the brakes in the G87, these hybrid pads hold up well. On the GR cars, I would need to manage the brakes a bit, but they don't give up...they can just smear if overheated - which isn't ideal...but really no other hybrid pad on the market takes this much abuse and still lasts a very long time. |
