Running Windshield Pump w/o Filter? Issues?

Hi all,

The only real issue I've experienced with my e92 has been, what I assumed to be, a clogged windshield water pump filter. I rarely use my windshield spray so it hasnt been a big problem, but I had an hour or two today so I made an attempt to fix it.

I struggled with getting my wheel off (bet dealer overtorqued it beyond 88.5ft/lb) so I went about going in there with the wheel turned in. Getting the molding off was easy, but when I pulled the pump, I noticed the filter came off.

A lot of this blue mossy weird gunk came spewing out from the pressure (perfect). However, I saw the filter inside the reservoir (nooo i need to take the wheel off now f*ck =____=;;. After attempting to pull it out with every tool imaginable, I ran out of time and had to go.

My question is, what kind of issues could I run into if the semi nasty filter is left floating about in there ? Either way, my windshield spray has good pressure again.

Any advice is welcome

It's not a part that can break your car if you leave it off, so it's not like it's a life and death decision. Worst case is whatever was gunking it up gets into the pump and kills the pump, and you'd have to replace that.
