nikon d40 price?
So I'm looking for my first DSLR and after reading some reviews, seems like the nikon d40 is the best option for an amateur non serious person like me who is going to be taking pictures of just regular moments and some semi-serious car shoots. What I can't figure out is how much I should pay for one? People have told me not to pay retail price like as in Best Buy but it's listed for 469.99$ and other websites are around there...so should I just go ahead and get it for 470 at best buy and save myself a couple of days or is there anywhere else I can get it for cheaper? I'd prefer not used since just like a used car, you'll never know what it's been through.

If you wait another 1.5 months, I am sure you can find good deals for D40 around Holiday shopping season because it's a very popular entry level digital SLR. I remember Ritz Camera had a great deal on it last year.
Also, if you are the type look into eBay. I got a great package deal on a barely used D40x (Basically tha same as D60) with two lenses, filters, Niko camera case, etc. for around $450 about a year ago. You have to know your way around eBay though b/c once you get something like that it's yours. |

i sold mine with the 18-55 kit lens for like 350. It was in very good condition. You should be able to find deals like that on craigslist all the time. I gave em a 2gb car too.

So pretty much all the good deals to be had are used?
bleh I was hoping I wouldn't need to buy used since like I stated above, I don't know what's happened to it and I would prefer local if i was to buy used, just in case something happened to it or something edit: btw if I'm buying used, what would i want to look out for when checking to see if the camera is in good condition? For example for a car, you'd look at mileage and tire wear and scratches and general wear and tear as well as any modifications ( visible ). In terms of a used camera, what are some signs to look out for to see that the camera is in good condition? Thanks. |

hey if youre interested... I have a Nikon D80 Camera Body for sale for $515 with a lot of extras.... you can view my thread here. The D80 won't be restricted to certain lenses and is a higher tiered camera... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312188
I do photography for a living and babied the camera body, so you know I haven't thrown this camera into adverse conditions/environments...

actually i'm just interested in the d40 and I'm willing to buy it with the lens + some original package stuff if you have them. As of now, I'm looking at a $400 new d40 with the lens and all the original items + full warranty...deciding if I want to buy used to save $50 since that's about as low as I've seen used on craiglist.

You can get used with extras for like 400$ ... I think 475$ sounds good. If you had to buy from a website you'd still have to pay for shipping and what not. Also if there is something wrong with the cam you can always take a drive to best buy and have them check it =]

The D80 won't restrict you to certain lenses, has 2 lcds, and better ISO capabilities compared to the d40. if you ever change your mind let me know.
