EWG issues with rattle

Hey y’all

I posted this in the drivetrain section but was hoping to get a bit more traction over here

I’ve run into a problem with my 14 335i. I get drive train malfunction and a rattle that on start up is very noticeable but when the car gets to running temperature it’s barely audible. The codes are

123432 - electric wastegate, learning limit stop: wastegate closed, outside tolerance

123401-Electric wastegate, learning limit position, cold start :malfunction

120408 - charging pressure control, deactivation, pressure buildup blocked

So I assumed it was wastegate rattle, did some research and looked into it with ISTA and found the wastegate was at -2.88mm

Took it to a mechanic and we attempted to adjust the wastegate linkage but the reading never changed from -2.88; which could just be me not being familiar with ISTA process’s. We did some more research and found that these faults can happen with a bad wiring harness (engine system module 1 wiring harness…I think)

There is clear lack of boost with the malfunction but sometimes the malfunction doesn’t happen and it drives just fine, still with the rattle though.

So my question is, has anyone had to adjust their ewg linkage? It seemed self explanatory but someone with experience giving a breakdown would be sweet. Also has anyone had a wiring harness issue? The intermittent malfunctions seem like an electronic problem but who knows.

And just to be sure I attached a photo of what I assume to be the ewg linkage, if any one can confirm that, it would be sweet!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Been going through the same issue on my '15 335i, just curious, are you running MHD by any chance? I doubt it has anything to do with it, but literally my first start up after flashing the E20 mix tune is when this all started lol.

This always happens when I start the car up after it's warm, like after a quick 7-11 run or something. Have to always put the car into the on position a couple times without starting, erase the codes before starting the car again, then start the car and it'll be good.

My friend and I have been looking into the issue with ISTA, so I'll keep you updated if we find a solution.

I figured it out, idk what I was doing wrong the first time but I was able to get the wastegate into the correct position. This got rid of the malfunctions but I still have a rattle, which is because the linkage itself is loose, so I’ll probably have to replace that or the whole actuator at some point
