Hey guys,

I own a BMW F48 and would like to retrofit a suitable MMI. While initially looking for the bimmertech one I've stumbled upon this insane thread (awesome work btw for all those information you guys gathered here!!!) and just found out there are way cheaper alternatives. However, I've a few questions which I hope someone might answer.

I'm from Germany and I'm new here. Just found that forum pretty (well, actually the f48.bimmerpost one since it's my own model ) interesting. Currently I am looking for the Andream MMI which not only is the cheapest one but also pretty good available through Aliexpress. My car is fitted with a HUD as well as a Harman & Kardon system and OEM ear camera.

1. While on a call, is it using the OEM iDrive or MMI?
2. Does the MMI properly fit in with the Harman & Kardon audio system? I've read about poor audio quality or stuff like having a low volume during calls whereas the music plays pretty loud.
3. It's always discussed that you can retrofit a camera as well and use the MMI for it. But how about the OEM rear camera? When using R gear, does the system automatically switch from MMI to iDrive? Does it work properly? I've also read stuff like having black screens while driving backwards.
4. For the bimmertech MMI it's said wireless Android Auto works with Pixel/Nexus and Samsung Galaxy phones (in my case the interesting one here is the Note 10+). Since hard- and software are (almost) the same, does this also apply for Andream?
5. I've also read using radio through MMI isn't possible which means I've to go back to iDrive. Can I do that through the buttons on my radio or do I have to navigate out of MMI first?
6. It's stated that the box will use AUX in for sound. Does this mean I've to pull a cable through my console and connect it into my cars AUX port?
7. Will I be able to use my HUD properly? I've read that e. g. Maps through AA doesn't show up on the HUD (which is pretty much understandable) but is it possible to change songs in let's say Spotify through the wheel on the steering and also see those information on the HUD? Same goes for incoming calls. Is it still OEM like? Reference video where it's not working properly. However, I don't know how it looked like before so I can not say it was previously OEM like or not. (

8. Is it possible to use all of my steering wheel buttons? Voice command for (in my case) Google Assistant seems to work, but how about calls? Can I simply call someone from my recent call list like in iDrive? To be more precise, am I going to use MMI or iDrive for calls? And also, is it possible to use the wheel (plus wheel button) to navigate through the MMI? This question partly refers to the above one, but I just wanted to separate them a bit.
9. Last but not least: Is it possible to still update the iDrive as usual? I'd assume that, since the MMI works more like a proxy, but just in case.

I'd like to apologize in advance if I'm just reasking some of these questions. Was really hard to find answers for everything.

Is there anyway for Android Auto to auto-launch for wireless AA with the MMI. I've tried Auto-launch in AA settings but that doesn't do anything on the MMI (just brings up AA on my phone). I also have the latest software from Andream (20.4.2.14) installed (although havent updated to the latest MCU)

Looking to add carplay to my BMW 2015(dec) f31 widescreen (NBT EVO Id4).
I am a bit confused by the different versions of carlinkit, andream and bimmertech.

Who is the "original"? I would say carlinkit as they are also known for the sticks to connect carplay to Android auto cars and are known as the source (a lot of chinese people are copying their sticks).

Which box would you advise to purchase? I am now considering the carlinkit
Furthermore: Is it possible to just use (wired) carplay navigation and still use the original bt connection for calls?

Asked for it today at 00:18GMT and had reply with download link and instructions at 00:19GMT!!

This MCU version is 20.5.9.10 (so 9th May).

The only difference I could see is that the scroll wheel now works the correct way (down for next, and up for back)

But if you can't wait, then do what I did and type the link in from the picture on the previous page.

The software update is already on post 3 as it wasn't new.

I don't think there is an "original" unit / brand / supplier, it's an unbranded box that different sellers put there name to, and tweak the software to suit.

They all came to the market around the same time, but the Andream was cheaper and easier to get hold of (most of the sellers did not have any Carlinkit items in stock and those that did put the prices up much higher than Andream). They have since dropped the price, although it still seems to be higher than Andream's price.

Yes that is also the only difference I can see. But taking a positive from it, at least they reply to someone, even if not me

For me it's a good update, as it now works the same way as it does on the i-drive

I didn't have any lag with the previous update and don't have any with this one either.

I can only assume people are referring to moving the scroll wheel or i-drive controller quickly, so multiple clicks and only getting some movement ?

But if you move it 1 click at a time, then it moves instantly.

But if you move it 1 click at a time, then it moves instantly.

With the last one you could move 3-4 clicks at a time instantly and then the cursor would freeze for almost a second before continuing.

I never noticed it then.

But I tend to only scroll 1 click at a time.

I have not experienced any lag either with the previous update or this one.

If use Carplays phone menu, then calls by default routed wrong- via Carplay and i can't hear other party. Strongly needed, that calls are routed via original BT, if car is equipped with S6NS (Comfort Telephony W/ Enhanced Smartphone). If i enter or accept call via wheel buttons, then right way. Seems like chineses have'nt any BMW to test it. Tested with latest sw, Andream unit.
