Premium Package worth it?
I would like to hear some opinions from those that do and do not have the premium pkg. The invoice price for this option is $2,320 on the 335i coupe. Now is it really worth it? Yeah it includes the leather interior, but the invoice price to add leather is $1,320. With that said and done let us do an analysis...
1) Ok it comes with a digital compass on the rear view mirror. First of all, it does not help a damn bit if you are already lost. Unless!! You get Navi... Then you would eliminate the need for this "compass". 2) The second feature is it comes with BMW assist with bluetooth system. In regards to the BMW assist I have it on my e60 and have not used it for S#!T. In regards to the bluetooth system it is useless if you do not have a compatible phone. 3) The third feature is lumbar support... I have the option in my car also and I think it might be me, but it makes my back uncomfortable... 4) The fourth feature... Auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors... Simple solution tint your windows... Or for those of you that have a it could you live without it? lol 5) Last but not least universal garage door opener... Its cool that the buttons are there but it is the same as reaching for the damn garage door opener... With that said and done please, let me know. Thanks |

Sound s like you already answered your own questions. You don't need it.
I for one think all those features worth more than $1k to me. Heck, people pays over $1k to just have bluetooth retrofitted to their car. Plus the fact that a premuim package will add to the resale value of the car is just gravy. |

You do not need it.
I ordered my car without it, and I do not regret it. It's just a bunch of random features, that would be nice, but they are not worth $1,000. And, I agree with you 100%: The Compass - Useless Lumbar Support - Useless Garage Door Opener - Use your own Bluetooth - Nice feature, definitely not a necessity dmz: I do not think it is worth the $1k+ price tag. It adds to resale value, but, I know I would never use those features. |

Sounds like you talked yourself out of it. I presonally like to drive a vehicle with most available options. Makes for an enjoyable ownership experience. .

PS: Even if I had the money, I would not get options like Cold Weather (SoCal weather is usually mild), Premium (Random toys), Navigation (I don't like iDrive), Heated Seats (Again, California weather), Comfort Access (You still have to carry around your key). I would probably just get 335 with Power Seats, Sport, and iPod. |

I live in So Cal too. I am the opposite. The more options the better. I could've gotten a base 335 for what I paid for my 328. I don;t regret it one bit when I drive it, and make use of the options. For people who never leave their block , and have no life, options like Navi etc are pointless. If you're not into gadgets, you'll never make use of bluetooth, ipod etc. So you have to take all these things into consideration before you buy.

I respect where you are coming from, for example, today (1 day out of 365) was cold, rainy, and windy. Heated seats and CA would be nice when I was in a hurry to get into my warm car, however, 99% of the time those options would be useless. By the way, you have ~$5,000 worth of options? |

A lot of phones have Bluetooth, Motorola RAZR's, LG Chocolate's, and regular $50 flip phones, as well. It's not only a thing for smartphones.

I did not get ZPP not because of the $$$ factor but like you indicated on your post to me it is full of useless features.
The ONLY thing that I wish that I had on my car is auto folding exterior mirrors which only comes w/ ZPP. Besides that to me the whole package is a waste of $$$.

The bluetooth, folding mirror, compas, and garage opener is only $1000 more on top of the leather option...............I would definitively get the Premium Pkg.................Have it and worth every penny.............

I think the PP also includes memory seats and leather. These are the only two things that I would want, and the leather is really not necessary. So, it would be better to get these "a-la carte" and not bundled with PP. IOW, I agree with you, PP is not worth it, at least to me.

I think it's worth it. If you are financing it or buying it outright, then it will be easier to sell IMO.

i think steptronic (convenience for me), and premium package are the most important options for me. the premium package seems to take the car from a basic bmw to the next level. one thing that i like in the premium package not available as a stand alone option are the power folding mirrors. i may not use it all the time but it does come in handy at times when i need to fold my mirrors.

It may just be my age talking, but I despise driving at night hours. My current BMW has the auto dimming feature, I am very pleased with it. For me the premium package was worth it just for this extra alone. I cannot speak as to how well this feature works in the e9x, mine is on order.

by your reasoning, why do you need an integrated radio/cd player if you can simply bring a portable with you?
why do you need A/C? there are plenty handheld fans to do the job. why do you need seats? you can simply duck or sit on the floor. what about the windshield? you can just get a helmet to block the wind. or, why do you need a BMW in the first place if a chevy aveo can take you from point A to point B just as well? the list can go on and on. you can find a substitute for anything in the car but it's never as good as the real thing. i got the package just for leather, auto-dimming and upgraded sound system, among other things. to me, those options are priceless. the garage door opener is also a really nice convenience option.

I have one. None taken. Shop for the phone that you like I bet it will be bluetooth ready. Bluetooth is a communications protocol and technically every phone should connect. Also if I am not mistaken it is now illegal in CA (and several other states) to talk on the cell phone in the car without a hands free device. I find the bluetooth pretty sleek. I never take my phone off my pocket. Whoever calls me it comes up on the nav screen and I click the phone button to talk to them. But you can always buy a bluetooth headset and use it. cheers Nick |
