Vaccum pump and EGR cooler residue -could this be a clue to my regens?
Hi, I wrote about my 'too many regens' problem here:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1958146 I haven't looked in the engine bay but today I noticed a black gunk on the vacuum pump, the egr cooler below it and, if the same residue, on the turbo pipe further down. Is this a clue as to what is happening regarding my excessive soot buildup? I can't see anything noticeably leaking (exhaust fumes or liquid) when I watch it at idle. The only work I've done in that region over the last few months is cleaning the EGR, the MAF sensor and replacing the egr and main thermostats so not sure if I've inadvertently done something... Thanks Dan |

After a bit if Googling it looks like the vacuum pump has an oil leak which might be repairable with new seals. Not sure if that would affect anything like regens, seems mostly to affect the brakes if I read correctly. Ah well, something else to sort out!
