Throttle Body Adaptation Reset
Hi all.
I've got a 325i with the 3 litre engine and my Dad has a 330D, both with AT. I've always thought my car was a bit sluggish in the throttle response, especially when in D - and this was confirmed when I drove my Dad's car. Of course, his is a 330D and mine is a 325i so there are going to be fundamental differences since his is a faster car and is also a diesel where mine's a petrol, but I just felt like my car was underperforming. So I dug around a bit and uncovered this forum post which outlines a process called 'Throttle Body Adaptation Reset'. I was pretty skeptical at first, but I tried it and I swear it's like driving a new car. The throttle response is much quicker, the car revs a little higher before changing up the gears, and it's altogether a lot more fun to drive. Of course, I could have just put it into DS or manual mode, but I found that those modes are both more performant now, too. Have any of you guys tried this? There seems to be some discussion around whether this is a genuinely functional process and whether it's just some kind of placebo - but I swear it worked for me. Basically the process I followed was: 1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time 2. Insert key and push START Button 3. Press and HOLD accelerator pedal for 30 seconds (some say 5, some say 25 seconds - I did 30 to be sure). 4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, push the START Button 5. Release accelerator pedal 6. Wait full 2 minutes 7. Start car normally I'm probably going to be at the petrol station a bit more often now, but I feel like the car now drives the way I'd hoped when I bought it. But maybe it is just a placebo and I've gone mad. |

Reading the link,seems like it may just work!
I'm going to try it anyway. Out of curiosity,when you depress the accelerator,did you push it to the floor or midway? |

thanks for this post ,ive got a 325i manual ,the throttles been a bit 'bitty' lol for a while well since i bought it ,just done this throttle reset and yea it feels better str8 away ,i could tell it was better backing off the drive lol

I'm still enjoying the novelty of my new faster car. Sometimes I crap myself because it's so keen to get going now where I had to coax it into moving before.

Before I did the reset, it kind of felt like the car was farting some of its power through the exhaust before it actually accelerated - no longer!
