Since this hasn't been mentioned, from the June 2022 issue of Car and Driver magazine, page 54. "Based on conversations with BMW executives, the new M2 should launch with rear-wheel drive, with an xDrive version following later..."

Yeah, who knows? I take 100% of magazine articles with a huge amount of salt initially.

Good find. I had to look this up to see it for myself. I also attached a PDF of the page in reference.

I find it interesting that they mention this was based off of conversations with BMW executives. From all the initial drives of the preproduction cars they all seemed to indicate there were no plans for xDrive.
