Yeah well I bought an AWD one cause I wanted AWD. I like the idea that I would be able change the bias on my car to something more agressive and essentially gain control over the "center diff" which I say with air quotes.

I'd be wary of this if you're someone who plans to turn your M240i up, especially running ethanol. That rear driveshaft wasn't meant to handle 150%+ of the torque the engine is capable of producing. I expect to see more exploded rear driveshafts.

It is cool this is something they can offer. Wish my M2 had AWD!

Yeah like I said I'm not doing a full FWD delete, it'd be interested in changing up the drive bias. Actually I think I saw on reddit, just the other day, where some kid who was trying to do donuts on dry pavement in a xDeleted xDrive 2014 330i, royally f'ed up his rear driveshaft. Looked like a twisted pretzel stick .

Was also looking at someone who monitored the xDrive system using pro tools and the graphs looked like the xDrive is basically in RWD mode most of the time, and just send power to the front on-demand here and there. With xDelete I'd mainly be looking to keep just a bit more of the power on the rear for winter months so that the rear rotates a bit more easy.

haha i saw that post. from the reddit comments, it seems xdelete is pretty risky, although im sure its a bit overblown because, reddit. glad i opted for rwd.

Granted I'm no expert, but most of what I've gleaned from some of the older 2/3 series forums is that the rear axle driveshaft tends to be smaller on the xDrive than the sDrive (RWD) variants of the cars. So by sending almost 100% of the power unconditionally there has been the case of catastrophic drive shaft failure, typically this occurs on sticky pavement where the user attempted to do donuts or burnouts.

It's my understanding that the xDrive system send 100% of the power to the wheels until slip is detected. You should be able to feel the car pushing from the rear most of the time, unless I'm crazy and completely wrong on this.

I think the scenario you're most likely to damage this rear driveshaft is when running power mods increasing the torque and HP of the vehicle, which is already not rated for (officially) and for which forcibly sending this extra torque 100% to the rear drive shaft could be a bad combination.

I'm not sure what the rear driveshaft is rated for, but hypothetically if you're installing xDelete, there is a high chance you will be flashing the accompanying xHP TCU flash, which has torque limiting features you can configure. Lastly, if you are taking your car to a tuner and assuming your car has been unlocked by FEMTO -- as is necessary for any post 2020 ECU -- it's likely they will also use BM3, etc. to impose some other safety features to prevent this scenario.

So in summary, don't be a dumbass with xDelete and conciously think about what kind of power is going to your rear drive shaft. Think about whether you may want to upgrade the rear drive shaft, or as other members have pointed out -- just buy a RWD version and forget about the headache of upgrading the rear axle.
