MD/ Northern VA shop for coil springs install

Hey guys/gals,

Can anyone recommend a decent shop to install Eibach Pro springs and spacers? I just got an estimate from a local shop for the installation plus alignment (photo attached). Seems a little high to me, but I just want to make sure. I am also not sure if they included wheel spacers in that amount since I don't see it in the breakdown and I did mention it to them.

Thanks!

A little update - got a much better quote from my local S2 Dynamics in Rockville for a $580 coil springs install and that seems a lot more reasonable.

Does your second quote include the alignment?

I'm curious to know how many hours people were quoted for the installation.

It did not, but I since found a new place right next to my condo that has a certified BMW Master Certified technician and a really good price quote that includes alignment and they are going to install the wheel spacers for no extra charge (makes sense cuz already removing wheels anyway.) I never asked for a discount, btw. I just used their website to send a message explaining what work I needed done. Getting them installed tomorrow morning. Will post pics after the springs/spacers.

That 1.5 hour alignment was a sure indication that they were trying to take a shot, good that you found other options.

Added bonus (for me), these will be the same shops I will visit when I need such work, so you're saving me time.

I completely agree. Mind you, before these last 2 shops, I received 2 other estimates. One for $1057 and another for $1477. Eric (the BMW-certified tech from the lowest-price shop where I am going in a few minutes) sounded very pleasant and knowledgeable over the phone, so definitely left a good first impression. Adding that discount without me asking for it was a nice bonus as well. Glad that I could help.

I got a quote also and I felt it was pretty high the shop I went to quoted me for 8 hours and with alignment the total came out to $980

Actually i was going to post saying the first estimate seemed in the ball park, but then i see your last estimate...that's an awesome price.

I'm reflecting on a thread elsewhere on this forum dealing with headlight condensation and BMWs 5-1/2 hour labor for replacing 1 headlamp at a cost of some $4700. WTH? And one poster thought that was about right??

so here you get 4 coil springs replaced, and front end alignment done in less time....my guess the diff is that headlamp fiasco is a BMW dealer and done under warranty they are charging a BMW inflated flat time. One reason to avoid dealerships for any work you can have done elsewhere.

Eric did a bang-up job! Such a cool guy. He was a certified BMW tech for over 9 years for BMW dealerships in the area before the opened his own business. As he was working, he kept me updated with photos of the work that he was performing. He messed up the estimate by including the alignment with the spring install but he honored it after having me drive a week to let the springs settle. I tried paying him for the alignment that was very much out of spec, btw., but he wouldn't take my money. He is a very honest guy and I highly recommend his business to anyone without any hesitation.

Good to hear about an honest tech, some of these shops near me in VA have made me pay an arm and a leg for my e46 maintenance

Yeah, man. Vultures out there. Honest techs are seriously hard to find these days. He also is a vendor of Akrapovic and he says that he shows his customers the purchase orders and charges what Akra charges him (at cost) and just bills for the installation. Honest to a fault, that one. Highly recommended.

How do you like the ride with the Eibach's? I'm also local and might have to go to him as well.

I absolutely love the ride with the Eibach's. Didn't give up much as far as comfort, love the look/stance and the handling sharpened in the corners. They really are the perfect hybrid of livability and sportiness. 20mm all around. And Eric is a very honest installer with a ton of experience in the field. Highly recommended!

I absolutely love the ride with the Eibachs. I feel that the comfort wasn't compromised overall but the look improved (imo) and the handling in the twisties feels a bit tighter with less lean. All in all, I see these springs as a good compromise for a daily G42 (I don't track my car).

Looks great! I saved their info. I may get some springs installed there too!
