hehe I get it!!

They switched the front and the rear legs of the rabbit. (now the bunny has "front leg leg drive" and is/looks slow) The reason rabbits run so fast is because they have "rear leg drive". The same is with BMW's.

Love the ad!!

on the pic of the rabbit, the rear feet have been placed in the front, and vice versa for the front feet. clever ad.

I think it might also be a reference to the Rabbit from VW, a front wheel drive car Seems weird if this is a USA advertisement since the two dont reall compete? Makes more sense for europe where the 1-series competes with the golf (but the car is called a golf there not a rabbit).. bah, i'm overanalyzing!

Might be somewhat of a cool concept for an ad, but from a marketing standpoint it sucks. If people who look at it has to figure it out and they don't get it, then it's useless.

I dunno, I looked at it and saw it had switched front and rear feet right away. Seems like a pretty good/funny add to me.

this was exactly what first came to my mind. i thought of the VW rabbit. even though "the rabbit" is coming back to the us (link) it really doesn't make sense here since BMW has no equivalent competitors for it.
