Hi Brumie!

This is encouraging, having the ability to add a hitch for a mountain bike makes this car checking all the boxes for me.

Thank you for posting those photos, I do use a one up bike rack as well.

A couple of questions.

Is the installation straight forward? bolts attached to the frame and that's it? any need to lower the exhaust? any clunks/touches with the exhaust while driving?

Are you still able to open the trunk with the 1up retracted?

If you have more photos it is appreciated.

Installation pretty straightforward although time-consuming to find all of the bumper and tail light fasteners. No need to remove the exhaust but the bumper will come off in one piece which includes the fake exhaust surrounds. Insulation took about 3 hours. And as posted in a previous post, the hitch does sit higher than the bottom of the rear valance. So one of two options is necessary. The first of which requires elongating the holes at the bottom of the hitch in order for the receiver to set lower about a quarter of an inch. Or as I did to prevent the integrity of the hitch being compromised, I trimmed the bottom of the bumper. Trunk is completely usable when rack and bike attached. The only thing I need to figure out is how to prevent the proximity warnings from going off in reverse as a result of the rack being present which is a little bit annoying. I will try to take a couple of pictures with the bike attached but unfortunately I did not take any while performing the installation. Happy to answer any further questions that you might have specific when you're doing the installation. Please feel free to reach out to me individually if you would like my cell for texting purposes.

How are you liking the 340 stealth hitch now that you’ve got it installed? What’s the clearance like with the 1up rack, any problems dragging it? Is it quick to remove or attach the receiver? Are the bike wheels out of the way from the exhaust?

No issues works as expected. Really they only issue that I have is the inability to turn off the parking sensors when going in reverse when the rack or bike is present. Car won't shut up until you turn off the rear parking sensor. It's unfortunate that you can't do that permanently.

I don't have a picture of the Seasucker on my G42, but it may be helpful to see a couple pics of the thing mounted on my old F22 (similar enough to give you an idea).
Edit: WTF are the images uploaded upside down?

Lovely Trek (especially the paint job), Emoda?

The SeaSuckers are great, but honestly leaning towards a hitch option for more piece of mind & flexibility.

It’s actually a lower-end Domane which I’ve largely converted to a gravel bike. My main squeeze is a Madone. I’m too heavy to get worked up over the weight savings of an Emonda.

I hear ya about the piece of mind. It took me a long time to learn to trust the Sea Sucker. One thing to consider: someone might give you a hard time when it comes to trading for a new vehicle if it has a hitch receiver. That accusing look they give you when that ask you if you’ve been towing stuff (small boats, snowmobiles etc) will irritate you as you know they don’t actually think that. They’re just using it as a means of lowballing you.

My solution ended up being trimming the bottom of the rear valance as opposed to elongating the holes in the hitch. Really was not wanting to affect the integrity of the hitch itself and the trimming was minimal maybe a quarter of an inch? Trim is completely not noticeable when the hitch is installed and barely noticeable when not. As I usually keep my hitch on the car, this does not bother me at all. Will post photos in the next couple of days if anybody's interested in the final result.
That's good news!!!!

Garage List
Seasuckers are very versatile. Can be moved from Car to car. No need to worry about rails.
Also good up to 225kph.

I’m still using the BMW roof racks with a Thule TopRide. Had to order some special bolts from Amazon Europe to make it fit correctly on the BMW rack mounting slots but otherwise it’s been solid the few times I’ve had to take my mountain bike out for a full today. If I’m staying nearby, I’m still going the dance with my girlfriend to let me take her car, which has a full hitch rack on it. I’ve lost hope at this point that we’ll ever get a proper hitch from any big players.

My car is "In Transit" which means it soon be here and I gotta start looking closely at how to install a thich.

Brumie33 do you have a link to the hitch? This is what I found for the 3 series but not sure if it is the same you're mentioning. https://stealthhitches.com/products/...mw~md_3-series

I'm planning to use a 1up rack

Yes, I saw that. Expensive for sure but the installation is the problem for me.

It seems pretty involved to me, taking the bumper out, easy for things to go wrong or when putting back together having rattle noises.

This is great, was just about to buy the 340i version and modify, but happily surprised to see this available. Means I can get it installed at the shop too, since if the 340 version required modifications to the bumper I would want to do that myself.

So I've researched it for the longest time and now that spring is around the corner is time to pull the trigger.

Something else that I learned is that the OEM reinforcement beam is replaced by the hitch itself. I don't know how I feel about it.

I think it is what it is and I'll be ordering it in a week or so with an installation in early March.

I might even do a video about the installation process.

Hey all, I was going through the posts, and I'm also in the same boat. Using the UK BMW site, I saw they had a factory hitch. I started searching that part number, and I think I found the aftermarket version of the factory hitch. Here is the link. I hope this helps.

I was hoping to add this for a single Kendon trailer to haul my 848 to track days. It's well within the weight limits.

If using stealth hitch it mounts to the same studs as the reinforcement beam but doesn’t replace it.

Hi KmtbS ,

Do you have some pics overall? anything is good, installation, after installation, in used, etc.

So, about using stealth hitch not replacing the reinforcement beam, would you mind confirming this is the product you installed?

https://stealthhitches.com/products/...2-series-m240i

PN: SHR31042

Installation guide calls explicitly to discard the reinforcement beam, which that's why I brought it up.
