Screen Protector?

Do any of you use a screen protector for the car screen? If yes, which one and how do you like it?

I just use a high quality microfiber towel with the Griot’s Garage Interior Spray. It’s save for all screens and doesn’t streak or leave any residues.

I dont really see a point to screen protectors for the interior of cars. Screen protectors on phones are designed to reduce scratches due to it going in and out of your pocket and putting it down on tables and stuff. Your infotainment display is not going to be doing that. Also screen protector film is more fingerprint prone and shows fingerprints even more than just the glass. And thats also assuming you installed it seamlessly without any air bubbles.

That being said, i have seen that some people have gotten their screens PPF'd and then ceramic coated to reduce oils and making it easier to clean so you can always get that done but i'm sure its more expensive.

Yes got a $10 protector and it fits well and is unnoticeable. Would do again.

Smart of you… I use the same care for my screens

Removing a screen protector can damage the screen itself

The only screen protector I use is for privacy on my iPhone and iPads

There will be a time someone other than you will damage the screen. When that happens, you remove the protector and apply a new one.

Someone operating the screen may rub metal on it. Someone cleaning the screen may use a cloth that scratches it, or use a cleaning solution that damages it.

You can't control those. That is the reason for a protector. Not owners use.

I guess it really depends on each persons situation. In all my years of owning cars i've never had anyone other than myself attempt to clean my cars interior. My wife knows i'm OCD about it and wont attempt it, and as we're both car enthusiasts, we have an unspoken rule that she drives her car when she wants to drive and i drive my car when i want to drive. Ive never had any scratches or issues on any screens, even the ones that are more prone to damage (ones in Porsche or her GR86).

I've owned an X3 with a damage coating on the screen (scratched) and it was a Non-touch screen.

Recently a friend took her Macan to get a rear door replaced, and the body shop messed up the screen by trying to clean it (not sure why they touched it).

Anyway, that is to answer your question about reasoning as you seemed confused as to why one would do it.

I am more concerned about the constant cleaning of the screen and leaving scratches behind. I don't think it's glass but rather plastic.

I’d consider a ceramic coating

I’m not sure what it’s made of but it’s always one of the first things I do

not confused. Just dont see a reason for it. Sharp edges seem to be weirdly around your car screens so i can see you needing it for sure. Ive just never needed it for myself.

If I WERE to get it done though i'd probably do the interior PPF + Ceramic coat though. I just feel like the fit and finish would be superior.

When it comes to these kind of personal risk/reward things, it's not really an intellectual exercise. It's usually "what has happened to you or your circle of people."

So if you've ever had a car display get damaged by a repair place, of course it makes total sense to spend the price of 2 cups of coffee just for peace of mind. So you don't have to have it floating in your head.

Just like people I know who think it's dumb to have a fire extinguisher on every floor of their house. Or by contrast, people who refuse to have space heaters in their home.

This is why, me personally, I don't care about PPFing the interior, but PPFed the whole exterior. I've never had the interior get damaged, but I HAVE had people ding my rear panels with shopping carts. Twice.
