OEM+ Strut bar Retrofit (parts for G22)

Installed pics Below https://g42.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...66&postcount=4

Saw this post buried in the g20 forum. Thought I'd bring it over here. Thanks soi3847
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1863814

Pretty much all the parts from the G22 he listed below. New G22 front brace that's pre tapped, he taps the rear strut and buys the braces. You could go even cheaper and just add (assuming based on other kits out there on bolt size) the strut bars with out the front brace it's just untapped so you need a nylon nut.
Two M8 x 60mm bolts
Two M8 x 25mm bolts
Four M8 Nylon Nuts
Four-Eight M8 washers

If you don't want to jack up the car you could probably do the Two 8 x 25mm bolts with nylon nuts on the front brace and then Tap the rear strut with the m10 x 1.5" making it easier to access the air box without jacking.

"All G20 has not Strut Brace Bar.
But, G22 has Strut Brace Bar.
Strut Brace Bar connect to left, right suspension mount and front bar.

-Parts Number-
G22 Connection - 51648491817 (MSRP $90)
G22 Strut Brace Bar - 51617456115 X 2 (MSRP $40)
Hexagon Bolt - 51716966566 X 4 (MSRP $10)
Total Price = 160~180$ (180,000won at South Korea)

-Need Tools-
Hexagon Socket 13mm, 16mm
Star Socket E18
Star Wrench T30
Tapping Screw M10*1.5
*Torque Tools (preferably to have)

-Main DIY-
G20 has not screw hole for Brace, need two works.
1. You need change connection parts
(G22 Parts has screw hole for Brace)
2. need tapping to suspension mount hole
(G20 Body has not screw hole for Brace)"

I have the Dinan braces, and I'm not a fan of the back side not being tapped. The components listed are exactly what comes with the Dinan set. The M8 60MM bolt that came with it were so much smaller than the hole in the backside. It just seems like it would shift back and forth and generally just fuck everything up. The bolt needs to be wider imo. I like the idea of tapping the backside. That would be hot. Thanks.

Also easier to remove to access the airbox with out jacking the car up

51716966566 is the bolt bmw uses which is a m10x1.5

Bmw charges $10 per bolt or I'm sure you can hit up the local hardware store and grab a nice stainless steel.

Bmw is threaded the entire length, and has a little flange. If you google the part number you can see what it looks like

Got around to doing it. Used the OEM strut braces and powder coated them red

Used OEM rear Bolts and Tapped the holes. Used the m8 x 25mm flanged bolt with washer and nylon in the front. I also used the Dinan riser since I have the Dinan intake.

Super easy.

Just want to touch up the rear bolts black

Which BMW OEM braces fit the G42 M240i?

What are you guys using for the OEM solution and where are you getting them? Looks like the M440i has them included as stock and *guessing* those are the closest fit for a M240i too?

Some of the M340i guys on the G20 forum doing it:

I just ordered from my local dealer because with shipping it cost the same

I ordered the parts above in my post. I didn't do the front piece with the welded nuts and did the nylon nuts like the aftermarket struts braces install

I had mine powdered Coated red for a little extra flair

I did this mod, swapped the G22 Strut Brace Bar, simple and straight forward. I had bought nice stainless M10 Flange nuts, but I hate things half done.

Used duplicolor engine ceramic paint and primer on the strut bars, came out great.

They look good painted, I did the mod a few weeks back but haven’t decided on a colour for the engine bay, I was thinking of keeping the purple theme going

I also would have gone with purple, if I spent the $ on getting a spray on color matched paint and then clear coating. Obviously decided black was easier. It would look great if you decided to go that way.
