Anyone have a link to a guide on how to access the top of the rear shocks in an E91 wagon? I started to remove the rear trunk panels but can't figure out if I have to remove the panels cover the rear mount covers.

So far I've gotten this far as in this pic:


Do I have to remove this panel or can it be accessed through this opening?

Any help appreciated.

Looks like you've access - remove that nut & shock can be removed.

Up top I got to the point you are at and was confused as well. It appeared that the seats and a bunch of other stuff needed to come out so we gambled. To get mine off two of us worked on it together. One person up top with an air ratchet (not to be confused with an impact gun which clearly won't fit in the space allowed) and one person below holding the shock shaft tightly with a leather glove on. This was precautionary to see if the shaft would spin. the air ratchet took the nut off without spinning the shaft at all. Just a slight tug as the nut broke free. My car is only a year and a half old so this may not be the case on an older car. Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but it came up from googling. Whilst it might be possible from the point pictured above, this is supposedly how you actually remove the trim.

There is SO little information on how to do this... and this helped me break a few plastic pieces But MANY FEWER than if I had not had this guide!
