USA 3 series recall - UK too?
I notice that millions of 3 series are being recalled in the states regarding the potential for cars to catch fire.
I've not heard anything of a recall over here (and maybe we never will). My car is on the list of ones that would be recalled. Some info provided below for those interested. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-41862153 http://abcnews.go.com/US/bmw-recalls...ry?id=50922136 Last edited by AD18; 11-06-2017 at 07:11 AM.. |

""Most of the cars were sold in the US. The firm did not say whether a recall could affect cars outside of North America""
Think that says it all but like I did with my car I went and asked my local BMW to have a look (Just In Case), Give them a call... You never know. |

Probably the same parts but we're not in the habit of suing someone that looks at you wrong so likely no recall here. Always worth asking BMW though

Hi guys
Well my old 2007 e92 caught on fire, in the boot, completely burnt out and all BMW UK had to say was 'let your insurance deal with it' I don't think they care cos they know insurance will pay out. |

Do we have any news on this?
I've not been on here for a while due to unexpected eye surgery! Meant that my E90 has spent the last 3 weeks standing still....!

UK Recalls
Just wanted to bring this up again. I received two letters for two separate recalls, which I'm sure a lot of you have as well.
Has BMW called any of you yet to actually have the work done? Everyone that has an E9X that I've spoken to are still waiting. Its been many months since I received the recall notice... https://www.bmw.co.uk/landingpages/b...e-recalls#gref |

Yeah!
It is a complete farce and all because some tosspot accountant tried to save a few cents per car by buying cheap components for what is BMW's top selling model! I wonder if BMW will learn anything by their mistake because it is now costing millions to put right something that should not have gone wrong in the first place if an engineer had specified the parts. Now my rant is complete I'll answer your question. My car was originally booked to have both recalls done on 5th July but that was cancelled by BMW at 3pm the day before I was due to visit. I called several times afterwards to end up being told that no cars were being booked in ad-hoc for recall work and I would be contacted when my turn had come. Astonishing though it may seem I received a letter dated 17th October inviting me to contact BMW to arrange getting the recall done. I did this the same day I received the letter and the first available appointment is 11th December!!! There are no courtesy cars available or collection and delivery service for recall work. I have to take my car there and wait for it since the round trip is 70 miles and if I did return home by public transport I would have to leave immediately to get back over there but that makes no difference apparently. However, out of the goodness of their heart they are willing to give me a complimentary wash and hoover while they have the car. I refrained from commenting on that. We'll have to wait and see if the work actually goes ahead in December. I understand recalling every 3 series made since 2004 is a huge undertaking, about a third of a million cars in the UK alone by all accounts, and it could possibly have taken a smaller manufacturer into administration but the management of the situation and lack of information in a timely manner has been extremely poor to say the least. I wonder if anyone is unlucky enough to have an insurance claim directly due to one of these faults BMW will pay the insurance excess and assist in sourcing a replacement car in a similar condition to the lost vehicle? |

Mine's booked in on 19th November for the battery cable recall and when it is in they will check the heater plug.
Oh I've got a courtesy car FOC too, as should everyone else that is having the recall done.

Perhaps it depends on the density of dealerships in the area. My "local" one is 35 miles from home, the next one is 50 miles and after that the other 3 dealers in East Anglia are heading towards 100 miles distant! Given the number of 3 series in the area, I can see 4 looking out of my window as I type (and that doesn't include mine as it is in my garage!) I guess the workshops are simply overrun with recalls. The irritating thing is there are several perfectly competent indies specialising in BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche that have full dealership diagnostic gear and franchised trained technicians that could do the job in a fraction of the time with far less inconvenience to me but BMW will not supply them the parts on an FOC for recall basis. |

I'll keep waiting then for mine to come around. Seems like there are some being done on here then. Maybe a few more reading will chime in if they've had theirs done too and their experiences. |

Did they indeed call you up or have you pushed it to make it happen?

"Sorry sheer quantity of the work" etc. etc. "best we can do is give you a lift into town" Because we both have Norwich postcodes they seem to think I live at the end of their road they do not seem to comprehend that a majority of Norfolk has a Norwich postcode (34 out of 51) and we are on opposite sides of the County. Then about 6 weeks later I called them again - Again no parts Then a few weeks after getting the letter I rang them again - Again no parts. Eventually they rang me back saying parts would be in soon, so booked it in. She said they were working through a list of about 700 owners (just the ones who had rung them) and they had more to sort out.

I got a 118i courtesy car for my cable recall - that was a bag of shite too - best thing about it was the HK sound system. Didn't feel anywhere near as solid as mine. Guess i won't be buying an M140i then! |
