Selling options? 2011 328xi
Hi There - We have had this car for 3 years. Has 120k miles. Ran fine until the engine "died". We took it to a mechanics that specializes in BMWs and he said it needed a new engine. I figured this would be the right forum to ask about options.
Is a new engine cost effective (where would we start trying to find one?) and/or is there a market for selling the car while it needs a new engine? Thanks for the advice |

That being said, I think you should keep it These cars are awesome and I bet you'll miss it. Best bet IMO, is buying a used engine from somewhere like car-part.com or any reputable online auto salvage place. Have an independent shop install it and refresh it with new gaskets, etc. during the install and it'll be like new when you're done for probably 5-7k. Expensive, but much cheaper than a new car and you'll have the peace of mind of everything being refreshed. Brand new engine or rebuilding the current engine is not really cost effective but could obviously be done as well. |

I would not trust just any garage to do a BMW engine swap. There must be 3 or 4 highly knowledgeable BMW indy garages in New Hampshire. I know of one in Albany, just outside of North Conway. Two weeks ago while on vacation near Mt Washington, I dropped in to say hello to them. Owner is Mike.
I also always recommend joining BMWCCA. https://wmc-bmwcca.org/ |
