Question: Other than swapping out the oil pan (this was an xdrive engine) how are these two short block N54B30A different?

The BMW tech was saying that the one for my car is a higher output. I found this posted online...below...am I to learn from this that the 07 short block N54B30A makes 38 less HP and 30 less tq then the 2012 N54B30A?

BMW N54B30 engine modifications

The number of bolts on the crankshaft is the only other thing besides the oil pan that you need to worry about. I would assume a 2012 335is is a 6 bolt motor so an 07 would not work as it's an 8 bolt. They changed to 6 bolt around 1/2009

Technically an 8 bolt would work, however you'd need an 8 bolt flywheel to go with it.

You can also look around for Z4 35is motors, X6, 535i, etc...the N54 came in a handful of cars

if you get other models you may need to move your oil pan to the new motor. 535i has a different pan.

Bmw calls it a short block even though it is a long block, top and bottom ends.
