Finally Saw The New Civic Type R On The Road

Two observations:
- this thing has serious road presence...was hard to take my eyes off it, there was so much going on
- this thing is truly FUGLY...I wouldn't buy one at half price, it is so hideous

I saw one a few weeks ago. I agree on Fugly. Road presence? Well, if you mean that in a negative fashion then yes!

Bonus, whomever was driving it was driving in typical asshat ricer fashion weaving through traffic like a tool bag.

I just saw my first one last Saturday. It definitely stands out.

My first and only thought about the car was, its nice that another car is being made that it fun.

Then I got to thinking about what makes a car 'fun' for me it has to look cool or interesting, it has to have 'performance' (whatever that means to the buyer), and it has to be something that you will use, and they have to be usable. If I am scared to drive/leave a car in a parking lot its not that much fun anymore.

You have all these amazing supercars, and hypercars (or whatever we are calling them now) that don't get driven because the fear of damage, or loss of value, or just impracticality of the design makes them no fun. Even Jay Leno said the chin spoiler on his P1 costs as much as a new Corvette.

Costs as much as a corvette? How big is his chin?

I saw a grey one earlier this week on the way home from work. He was definitely driving like he had something to prove. But with the way traffic is around here, no matter how much zigging and zagging you do, you don’t get very far. We kept ending up next to one another. It looks like a lowered Honda Crosstour.

I've seen several on the road. I don't care how fast it does the ring. I'd rather drive an S2000.

Love the S2000. Where did Honda go wrong? They must have hired a bunch of 13 year olds drunk on NoS after watching all the Fast and Furious movies to design the R.

I'm an S2000 owner and long-time honda/acura fanboy, but this one is just too much over the top. Honda has never been about over-the-top performance or extreme designs, I don't know why they went this direction with the Civic Type R. At some angles, I'll admit that, if I squint my eyes just tight, it's okay, but that's really about it. I'll admit the 'ring time is impressive, esp for FWD, but 'ring time isn't the be all, end all.

Not just Honda, every Japanese car looks ugly especially lexus. Only car that looks good from Jdm is Mazda. But there are rumors of a new s2000 (baby nsx) lets hope its true. And the new civic T is not bad looking, i seen few of them and they looks much better then many other cars.

Other than the faux vents, it looks no less outrageous/angular than an Aventador. People might say an exotic car should have bonkers styling, but I argue a hot hatch should/could as well. Different strokes I guess.
IMO, Civic Type R (at MSRP) over the M240 all day everyday. But an extremely tough decision between CTR and M2.

I saw a red one the other day as well. Looks like a teenage boy going through puberty designed that car.

I saw one over the weekend. The toolshed that drove it got into the car and immediately revved the motor for no fucking reason. Oh it's already starting. I can picture the Rice Fuck Boi forums now, "At last we shall crush those German car assholes, at last we shall have revenge. No longer will they insult our fart can exhausts and wheels that cost more than the car is worth."

My feeble mind could not comprehend what you're trying to say after describing how someone revved for no reason. Are you trying to say JDM car enthusiasts consider think of us as German car assholes and BMW owners think of them as "Rice Fuck Bois"?

Agree 100%, although with the M2 you're definitely paying quite a bit more than the CTR at MSRP.
