wondering if i can get some insight with the issues that im having.

i just bought this car knowing it had issues but took it on a project car. i’m willing to put the money into it to fix her up but having trouble on where to start. i’m thinking the throttle body and acc pedal are toast but just want some confirmation before i throw money at it. car does drive but has no power power. will not go above 3000rpm, jumping rpm’s. i also replaced the battery when buying it.

i’ve pulled apart the air system down to removing the throttle body cleaned and inspected everything. no leaks or debris. i haven’t cleaned any sensors with CRC but visual checked them.

The N52 uses BMW's Valvetronic system to throttle the engine. The throttle body is a fail safe back up system if the Valvetronic system fails. It's probably an issue with the eccentric shaft sensor. The ESS can get contaminated with oil via the connector due to a leaking ESS seal in the valve cover. If the ESS does not properly detect the position of the eccentric saft (driven by the Valvetronic motor) the throttling does not operate correctly.
