Impressions of those coming from an F87?

Curious to hear from people who moved from an F87 to the G87.

in particular interested to hear about:

chassis feel (does the G87 feel more compliant and composed as reviewers would suggest?)
S58 character, how does this particular tune of the S58 feel? How is the low end torque?
fun factor? is it as fun to drive?

same questions as above especially on the chassis point-

is it as bouncy as an F87?
is it as twitchy as an F87?

or is it balanced and composed more like an m4?

Also does anyone know yet what the 1/4 mile trap speed is of the g87 auto?

The problem with one of the responses you will get is what people want the car to do. Many on here seem to like the ass end slide/drift that the F87 M2CS has vs the grippiness feel of the G87. Sorry, I dont need that slide but that is MY opinion and preference. I am alao not buying it to run road races on track.

I'd love to see a Carwow drag race between M2CS manual and G87 manual in 4th at 30mph roll...

Heck, why not 6th at 15 while they are at it?

Nah, have to put it in 6th when you get in the car, start the engine and take-off from there.

Omg it would stall so fast, I still want to see it, and then a reviewer blame the stalling on the car. Blaming user error on the vehicle seems to be the trend.

CDV mod to put a flow restrictor in with a hair sized hole in it would solve that, clutch should be fully engaged with no stalling by the time you hit 60mph (optional replacement clutch every few launches). Even better, you could have your BMW specialist do the zero shift time mod for $1000 where they place it in 6th then remove the shift lever. No more slow shifts!

TH's next challenge will be to see which is the better getaway car; how fast you can jump in and drive off. Spoiler, the G87 will lose due to being equipped with CF buckets.

Oh man, let's start a new thread of all of the stupid tests "reviewers" could come up with to purposely fail the g87.
You've got me rolling thinking of them actually performing this tests like clowns hopping in a clown car.

I'll be putting together a thorough review. I want to pass break in first.
But happy to respond to your question; I've had a OG and CS before the G87. For context I have also owned a Model S Plaid, 991.2 GTS, C63 18 Coupe, F80 M3 and countless others.

Bouncy?; In full sport suspension, yes. But I would say it's "busy" only on poor roads/side roads. On the highway it's square and compliant.

Twitchy?:Hell yes, but in a good way. Speaking specifically to the traction on the rear, you really can dial this thing in. They have detuned 1&2nd and looks like <2500RPM so you can actually put traction down without the F87's annoying wheel hop. No wheel hop here. The car is only "twitchy" when driving in full sport plus/m modes on everything, which I would actually expect and as a buyer is something I want. I don't want a safe toy, I want something that will bite my head off when I ask it too. In efficiency, you might as well be driving a 230i. Very two faced.

In the short time I have had it, it splits the f87 and G82.
It's a more refined F87.

The good;
-The Looks, I love it. Gives me WRC wide body vibes. No I'm not blind. Lowering+wheel fitment and a rear wing will make this thing look stupidly good. My Black one should be ready for some photos soon after my tech gets done with it.
-The interior has some scratchy plastic, but this is a massive upgrade over f bodies. It's not even close.
-The power, the g87 makes my OG look stupid, ... like the s58 is making 500hp+ at the crank, wild stuff out of an i-6. After wheels, hood, rear seat delete and new smaller battery I can only imagine what this thing will do beyond pissing off some f87 owners. Even my CS didn't get me this excited. You really couldn't take that thing any further without turning it into a full race car. While the CS is better looking, it isn't the better car.
-The traction. The grip is silly, turn in is neutral and balanced. But you change your setting to "4 or <" and the fun begins. 5+ and you'll struggle to break the rear loose.
-Paint work, while others may not mention it this is some of the better factory paint I have seen on any of my BMW's; german, American, south afrian
-The brakes, while they day not have the best feel they pull this fat monster to a halt only like my gts did. So much confidence here.
-Lights, the headlights are amazing for not being laser. VERY impressed with the nighttime visibility.
-Active sound looks to be turned off. Cannot confirm. But when I tried to remove it using Bimmercode it was marked as "disabled" I could enable it, but chose not to. If it has been removed/disabled its a win for me.

The Bad;
The transmission; I have the 6speed. I hate the rubber feel, long throws and clutch feel. First mods I do is changing the rear shifter bushing ( Gets rid of most of that sloppy feel when shifting between gears.), and remove a small spacer in the fluid line that is shared with the steering rack ( my tech does this mod) not super familiar. I can find out more. But it reduces the "space/tolerence" for the clutch to engage. If you have driven a manual BMW you know the "dead" area at the top of the clutch I am talking about.

-The squeaky brakes; Low speed braking has always been a problem with the pads BMW uses. Lots of dust and annoying sounds. I'll likely replace soon.

-The UI for M 1/2 set up. You cannot save a preferred display for your M button set up. You can manually adjust it ( no memory function in iD8) They offer 3 cluster configurations, 1-normal, 2 sport, 3 race. They all look slightly different, but you cannot save "sport" to either setting, annoying.

Those are my initial thoughts, more to come in an organized fashion. Happy to field any specific questions.

Great write-up!

So if you want the sport display with an “M1/M2” do you select sport and then press “M1”?

Or are you stuck with the default display when using the “M modes”?

If you appreciate that one, wait for the final one. Raise your expectations

Yes you are understanding that correctly. Heck, I could be doing something wrong, but I have tried several ways with both keys and no luck.

I read that replacing the rear bushing with polyurethane one introduces too much noise, vibration, harshness. What's your opinion on that ?
