N53 potential oil leaks

Posting here as the board seems more active than the E60, therefore sorry for the confusion.

Recently replaced a rocker cover: garage put an aftermarket one, but it was still leaking (not correctly seated), so they did the job again.

This was as result of a second opinion from another mechanic who pointed out that the job wasn't done correctly and showed me where the leak was.

Further, they explained that (i can't recall this correctly) oil pan gasket OR oil filter housing gasket may be leaking and they need to be done.

Just want to know if this a serious thing, what do i need to check and what kind of consequences shall I expect if the latter are not addressed timely.

Car has had a recent oil top up after 2000 mls but just a quarter.

Thanks for your replies.

Clean the motor up well with degreaser and brake cleaner. Observe the leaks.

Oil pan gasket = annoying but no big deal unless its puking out everywhere.

OFHG = Can be a huge deal if not addressed.

OFHG is up high on the motor. It is easy to tell if its leaking because it will be wet beneath it.

Oil pan gasket needs to be clean above it or you will get a false positive with a OFHG leak or VCG leak.

As cbrider says, OFHG (and on the N53 oil cooler gasket) are key. Reason? Because (if you didn't already know) the leaking oil can run down onto the serpentine belt which can slip the pulley and get ingested into the engine via the front crankshaft seal with catastrophic results. This is the best DIY video I found which minimises oil and coolant loss during repair. Although it's for the N51/N52 I can confirm it works for the N53 too.
