I think more people are upset because they put their orders for a 2022 model and not 2023 one back from March/April/May and they seem they will be delayed long enough and pushed into a 2023 model by not a clear and transparent reason

same message for me! I wonder how they decide which cars are now produced and which are not! I believe I saw people with march / april orders and their cars already being build or at least 150 status code. And mine was pretty base model to not require many chips ( no ACC, no parking assist, not even harman kardon , no HUD,etc only the cosmetic options and M adaptive suspension and adaptive led ) ...

I thought my delay may have been caused by me checking every option box including 50 yr badges.

Is there any chance that 2023 model year will still ship with iDrive 7? I can't find any definitive source stating that 2023 = iDrive 8 other than speculation.

That would really be a dumb thing to do … change the interior after 1 year of production. But then again Cadillac kinda did that with the CT4/5

That's subjective, some will like them and rather have the new system & some won't , some will get a different interior & infotainment system to what they have test driven & ordered
If our car gets delayed from September what will come with ?!
If this is true then it's ridiculous.
My dealer is pretty sure it won't happen , who knows .

if it gets delayed into a 2023 model then pretty sure the original delivery date will be delayed as well so I dont know why your dealer told you it wont happen. for us in Canada is roughly 6 weeks for the delivery after the car enter the production line so if the car gets produced in july we are looking at a late august early/mid september deliver date and for you folks in UK should be 2 months after the production date so roughly early /mid october ?

and my initial post about the 2023 switchover that most people will get upset on was based that from what I've seen in these forums is that most people dislike the new curved idrive 8 interior ( they way it is integrated onto the dash and less physical buttons especially for the climate system )

My dealer doesn't think they will change to Idrive 8 not that he thinks my build slot won't be delayed but I can see how you came to that after reading my previous post back .

so this was the big news which was supposed to be about m240i or related to it ?

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1923430

so given bmw 3 series are also produced at the Mexico plant, we are safe to say now that 90% the 2023 m240i will have the same interior as the new 2023 LCI 3 series ? disappointing ...

They even got rid of the shifter?! What a downgrade… I know to each their own, beauty is in the eye of the beholder… blah blah, iDrive 8 is such a disappointment. Man I will be upset if my build comes with iD8. Definitely going to look elsewhere

It's nice if you have to climb over your seat from one side to other... I guess?

Lol that's one way to put a positive spin on it.. Some may also argue that could be a con as well

Hopefully my dealer will let me know what's going on today , when ordering we wanted the heads up but it's not available & neither is the wireless charger or the Wifi but BMW still wanted the full £1200 for the tech pack that would only give you park assist , hopefully they will clear that up today as well .

Whoa, been following the 3 series release yesterday which didn't surprise many, but I did NOT expect a change to the 2 series for another year or so.

The 2022 adapters got boned imo. iDrive 8 looks a bit 'tacked on', but the screens seem much better and more futuristic. Not nearly as integrated and you have to use the system to adjust AC, etc. but overall it will hold value much better in the age of EV styled tech interiors.

The shifter delete is odd, but makes sense are you're not really using it while driving. I wish the paddle shifters were taller and more robust though (thankfully, there's lots of aftermarket options to correct this). The extra space in the bottom right corner annoys me the most tbh.

I spoke to my local BMW dealer the other week and asked (jokingly) if they though iDrive 8 would come to the 2 series soon. They said only new models would get it (like the M2). They were very wrong as now the 3 & 2 will have it.

Personally, I like it and I would much rather have the newer tech than the old. My last car was a 2019 440i GC and I hated how old the interior looked compared to the G20. I think I'll adjust to the lack of physical controls without any problems. Now I just need my dealership to get an allocation.

In my honest opinion, I don't think there's a lot of difference in tech (in terms of functionality). Like it's still a digital gauge cluster with almost identical applications. It is just a matter of how they integrate the digital cluster which I think id7 looks much better. It just feels much more driver-focused compared to id8. But again, it's just a personal preference.

However, I don't really appreciate how they are removing the gear shifter and the physicals button. It just seems like cutting costs rather than creating a masterful design. Like why remove buttons when there is clearly enough space to fit them there?

My dealer was having a problem getting the Tetragon interior trim (ordered 3 weeks ago), finally came back to me today saying it had been discontinued and would I be okay with Rhombicle.

Given the 3 series update yesterday it made me suspicious so went and looked at the configurator with Rhombicle. Boom, new dash.

Strangely if you go for Piano Black the configurator shows you the old dash with analogue dials which I don't think has been sold in the UK up until now. Possibly using up the last of the old stock?

It's taking a bit of adjusting to the new shape but I think I'm okay with it though as everyone is saying the screens, particularly in front of the driver, look tacked on.
