Weird buzzing sound after shutting off engine
Hello everyone, I recently got a 2018 640i and I've noticed a weird sound after driving and shutting off the engine. It's like a high pitch buzzing sound coming from the grill area. The sound goes away when the engine bay cools off. But when it's warm from driving it makes a buzzing noise every 1-3 minutes. I've liked a YouTube video of the sound. Anyone else have this noise? Is it normal? Thanks.

Does your car have active grill shutters? Might be related to them positioning or ??

I believe the fans can still run after shutting off the engine to help it cool down.

I have had the same noise on my F10 N55. It wasn't constant thought. I couldn't figure out where it's coming from and based on what I found on forums it's somewhat normal. Never went to a dealer or shop. This might help - https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/c...hut-off.27889/

I'd have thought a 2018 wouldn't have the issues the cars from a decade ago did, but... They aren't silent. It doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, I wans't trying to imply that. Maybe it was always there and is mnormal and is simply being noticed? |

You're probably right then if you're familiar with the sound. If you want to check to be sure, you could do the bleed process on this car too. Take the key out to stop it early, don't have to do the whole cycle.

My car makes a ton of strange noises when I unlock or lock or turn on/off… no idea what’s going on… it’s like a spacecraft. I here things whirling, pressurizing, churning, whining, muffled buzzing, a zut-zat noise, some thing odd happens in the rear wheel well, a few things in the engine…
It’s been that way since day one - always makes me laugh, I don’t want to know what it is at this point because I might be disappointed it’s not the flux capacitor powering up, or the duel-posi-clutches engaging or the bi-turbo’s pre-charging…. Plus I don’t mind being asked what my car is doing and I reply, no idea! Or when people run up to me to tell me I left my car running. |
