I'm not sure why only an ICE is a true M. EVs are clearly capable of extraordinary acceleration and maybe this is better viewed as a new age of more impressive performance.

I'm not dismissing the fact that it is a genuinely huge change. And although I'm deeply concerned about climate change, I too will miss the rasping growl of an ICE. At the end of the day, this is an important and necessary shift and so long as there are enough driving enthusiasts, will have performance vehicles being made powered by EV motors, flux capacitors, or whatever.

Let nostalgia give way to optimism for a new era of high performance.

You can keep that list your are building with yourself. Try to understand where some of us are coming from. We are all different. Age, gender, exposure, taste and money. I grew up in an era where an M car is ICE, period. It's a DemiGod in my eyes.This is a massive change and will take more time for some of us to accept. Some may never and some (like yourself) will be open to it from the get go. The connection with the car is key and it will be very different between ICE vs EV/hybrid. I am not saying that future M cars will be shit but won't have the same soul and character as this era.

I agree with you on sustainability and thanks for putting forth a moderate view unlike some others. Let's talk stats and numbers and what will actually make a tangible difference.

1. Can we agree at high level that 90% to 95% of cars sold by BMW globally will be non Ms.
2. Majority of the people who buy these M cars are purists, enthusiasts, dinosaurs who love a traditional experience
3. So it is better to convert the non Ms to EVs first and leave the Ms open to choice. This will also make a huge positive impact on sustainability and also let people like us have what we love.

More great logic on display. I’m not teaching anything ya dingus. I’m highlighting the silliness of arbitrary definitions like this.

M cars have come in so many shapes, styles, flavors, configurations anyone attempting to box them into one definition fails to realize that speed and performance are awesome and their are a lot of ways to achieve that goal.

I just got some seat time in a E92 with an exhaust fitted and I’m more convinced of this idea than ever. They’re all good cars. Collect em all.
