Lol, are you trying to say ppl are leaving BMW in droves and running to Porsche? Most BMW owners are not cross shopping with Porsches, only wealthy people can afford a real Porsche. The typical BMW owner can probably only afford a cayman or a macan, neither of which is both practical and sporty. BMWs are good all rounders that are reasonably priced. You're not getting your kids and golf clubs in then back seat of a cayman or 911 and you're not having fun canyon carving in a macan or cayenne. You can do all of that in a bmw M car and it will cost you much less.
100% agree. Look at the numbers. And Porsche is having serious supply chain challenges in the near term.

I'm not sure what you're talking about but there are plenty of people who own both brands.

Enthusiast like myself who own M cars are not going to stick around for Bmw to continue the strange design language.

I didn't buy Bmw for what it cost. I own Bmw for the way it makes you feel the driving experience and so forth.. if I wanted a car to go to point a and point B. I would've bought a Honda or a Volkswagen or a Lexus

BMW is catering more towards the non-enthusiasts who just want the badge. Porsche can afford to cater to their core audience. Enthusiasts and people who really really want that badge lol 😂.

Porsche also still offers European delivery. I love my m240i and hope to drive the heck out of it for years to come, but if Porsche announces they are axing gas cars in the very near future, I may jump ship.
I don't play golf or have kids but I do go shopping and take road trips with friends and I'd much rather do that in a four door with a trunk and a spare tire than a two door coupe with no trunk space or back seat. If I could have two cars then sure I'd maybe look at a Porsche for a track toy, but most people don't have that luxury, hence why most people won't be running from BMW to Porsche.

I agree. Why buy a car and pay a $100K grand only to get "used" to the look of that big grill. I don't want to be brainwashed by BMW. There are multiple options out there for enthusiasts.

The point I was making is that MOST bmw owners who are car enthusiasts (not you) are owning one car at a time and they need that car to not only be a sports car, but to also get groceries and do other things. BMW has many offerings that are reasonably priced that check all of those boxes, Porsche does not. So I don't think that many people are running away from BMW and going to Porsche, If anything they're going to brands like Audi or Mercedes.

BMW's marketing department has been selling 3 series and M3s this way forever. Techno/house music with mixed weird angle quick driving and rear view mirror shots. Just watch 5 of any E36 or E46 video ads. You'll see at least 2 or 3 of these.

This is going back to the days when you actually needed to make money to buy a BMW and couldn't just lease a 3 series for $299 and a 650 credit score.

It's just that every Boomer and GenX'er in here romanticizes their E30-BMWs-are-exclusive-and-for-the-refined-cigar-smoking-man upbringing.

BMW is a mass produced consumer car company. The M2 is being marketed as a fun sports car to the 18-40 masses with disposable income. Come one come all! You want exclusive and class? You're not going to find it on TV in between reruns of Seinfeld.
Leasing a 3 series now will cost you $800 a month.

It's a big grill but I'm already used to mine. It's hard to justify another 50- 100k to buy a Porsche because I don't like the grill. There's plenty to not like about the Porsche as well - not exterior design but price, cost of maintenance, lack of room for kids, etc. there's always Mazda or Toyota if you can't take it anymore

Can I fit groceries and golf clubs in a 911?

Yes and yes

The G87 is my last hope to stay with BMW. If the M2 doesn't appeal to me after the reveal, I'll hold onto my F80 as long it takes to get a 992 allocation.

When the F8x came out, I had an emotional "had it have it" moment. Couldn't wait to get my hands on one. The current BMW generations have not created that reaction. It's very meh. I'm not spending close to $80k on a car that doesn't excite me or for a design language I "have to get used to".

The G87 has a lot going for it. Doesn't have the big grille, gets the S58 from the start, unlike the F87 it'll have adaptive suspension, etc. The only downside I've seen so far is that some parts of the interior will be slightly smaller than the F87 and the Gxx series cars have gained a lot of weight. I wouldn't be surprised to see it weigh anywhere from 250~300 lbs more than the F87. That's the single factor that bothers me the most. Maybe they'll prove us wrong (yeah, right).

And it's not so much the design or the enlargement of the front grills. It's the overall awkward proportions of the new M3 and M4. The proportions don't flow the arch lines all of the weird design language it's like five different people designed the car in different sections. The M3 also just looks awkward with the size that it's grown into.. it's just too big and it just doesn't look like an enthusiast car anymore it looks like an old man trying to be cool.

Unfortunately what we're seeing now Bmw voted on and budget for years in years in years ago with the board voting, back when they started releasing the F series. The next generation M cars are already been voted for and budgeted for.. most likely they will be electrification.

And the LCI.. that's around the corner has already been approved and budgeted. companies approve their designs years and years in advance before the market even knows what's happening.

That's awesome that you can afford a 911 allocation, I'm not as fortunate so I would be cross shopping the G87 with a cayman (which makes more sense from a comparison perspective since they're more similarly priced). Personally speaking it's not a contest at all I'd take the M2 every time because it's a more powerful and practical car. Design language is nice but isn't my main priority when I'm buying a car.

I just made the mistake of reading the front page thread on the BMW price increases. The price increase on M models is through the roof which means the G87 price will also see a huge jump over what was initially planned.

This is a first for me..... I've never seen a company use a rival company's product to promote their brand. How is that even legal? Ah whatever, bring on the reveal already!

Same here, I bought my first bmw 320 hoping to be able to get a M3 one day (f80 was so beautiful since day one..... No need to get used to something new that looks awful).
Now that I have the money to get it, they screw it up with their new design language.....
I am hoping that the new M2 be bmw German design.....not this new Bs.
I also can keep saving for few more months to get a base 992 but where I live is not so safe to have a Porsche .....

Just out of curiosity, how old is everyone? Im 24 and this ad feels in no way as something I'd find as "hip" or "cool". I get companies are in it for the money and enthusiasts are often put on the back burner as we don't supply them with the cash flow that the general public does. Which is why you would think they'd have an ad catered to their enthusiasts when it comes to a M vehicle. I mean just look at Dodges ads for the challenger and charger.

I can understand the marketing hype around this reveal but I am confused on the strategy.

They could have just used the camo cars they were posting on Instagram a few weeks ago and a short sound clip.

I need to work for their marketing team.
