Newbie question about installing aftermarket parts

Hello, I am expected to receive M2 in about 2 months and looking for aftermarket parts to install. Current plans are front lip, side skirt, rear diffuser, DRL led headlight, etc. Thinking of purchasing this. https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...RoCvA0QAvD_BwE

Is this jack pump good enough to do the install?

Yes, that will be enough to lift your car up, but I would not work under a car for more than a few minutes unless it was on jack stands.

1. Lift the car up using the jack
2. Put it on jack stands
3. Safe to work under the car

You also run the risk of damaging the car if the jack suddenly loses compression.

Recommend you look into getting a 'low profile' jack. Even if your car isn't lowered, it will still let you get under the jacking points if you are on slightly uneven ground. You should get jack pads or use a hockey puck on the jacking point so you don't damage it.

Please use jack stands, always. Please don't be the guy that dies under his car because his floor jack leaks.

This. I haven't looked at the side clearance of the m2 but I know on my supra the quick jack and the harbor freight daytona low profile fit under the car just fine (wasn't lowered). I'd aim for a jack that is ~ 3" just to be safe.
Pretty sure this is the jack I have: https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...nge-57590.html

What are people’s experience with plastic service ramps? Was hoping to use these to install the zunsport oil cooler grill.

You will probably need some boards as well to help you get up on them unless they are super low profile. (17° was too steep for my stock height G42).

I got the ones from Harbor Freight but had to use 2 2 bys to lift it up prior to approaching the ramp. Clearance to the ramp was like 1–2 inches. It worked really well to install the mishimoto plate. I am on the small side and had plenty of room.

Used ramps like pictured in DarkNight707's post for various cars since circa 2002. For my Porsche cars their noses were too low to clear the ramps without some boards to raise the front of the car before driving up on the ramps.

But most of my use of the ramps was for oil/filter services and all my Porsche cars were mid-engine or rear engine and I backed the cars up on the ramps. There was no clearance problem.

However, were I to resume work on my cars including my M2 I'd buy a portable hydraulic lift that I could put on the garage floor and position the car and lift the entire car. This would suffice for oil/filter services, getting at the radiator/cooler areas for clean (or fit screens), brake fluid flush/bleeds, brake jobs, etc.

Something like this:

https://www.quickjack.com/

Even better would be one that would support lifting the car by the tires or by the body lift points to then let the wheels/tires "dangle". This would be great for brake jobs, tire rotation, swapping winter/summer tires, etc.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I would be brand new to the majority of tasks you mentioned lol. The one reason I would like to remove the wheels would be to add the yellow daytime running lights.

I second the quickjack, was a great addition to my garage and packs up nice and small and "hangs" on the wall. Used it on my supra, mini, and even RDX when I needed to.

A good reference for folks here as there were some other threads with discussions, which model(s) quickjack fit the jackpoints for the G87 M2?

Would love quickjacks, but struggle with storage in my one car garage (even wall storage).

This is the one I have:
https://www.quickjack.com/car-lifts/5000tl/

paired with the wall mounts works great. I have the compressor on the bottom of the rolling tool cart so I can disconnect it and just roll it back into place when not in use.

That’s what I am asking that will be helpful for folks. I don’t have the answer but there a bunch of G87 owners that have these, so the models that work for them would help

The TL5000 will work. the mount spots have a fairly wide area that work. Worked well with the supra, mini, and acura RDX so that should give you the range of cars that will work.

EDIT: This is wrong - just wanted to provide an update, I was incorrect and misread the spec. IT seems as though you'll need the 6000 Long...even with the extended frame option on the 5000 it's about 1.5" short.

Just purchased a 2 ton floor jack to use it to install a front lip. People told me to purchase a jack pad? or some sort of rubber to use it with the floor jack. Does anybody have a link you can provide for this jack pad?

I use Rhino ramps when doing maintenance/installing parts on all my vehicles. I jack the car up and slide the ramps under. Only use jack stands if I'm taking the wheels off and working for an extended period of time. Safe enough I let my kids service the vehicle

For the oil cooler install you should only need to jack up one side. It takes 2 min to install.

Any other recommendations on some ramps that are easily acquired from an auto store/hardware store? Wanting to install a front lip and oil cooler cover. If need be I can grab some 2x4s for these ramps but was worried about clearance on the way down after the install
