DSC Malfunction costs..

Just so you all know what your dealing with concerning our cars out of warranty.. I been having a DSC and DBC malfunction code being thrown and then..
Dealer has it today.. Steering angle sensor they say.. Cost installed and re-programmed..

$1120.00
(+diagnostic $140)

Im hoping my 3rd party warranty covers it, waiting for them to open ...

Ouch. Which 3rd party warranty do you have? I've heard good things about Paragon.

Do you know which codes were thrown on your car? Did you notice any problems?

I found these in the "Stability Control" Module on the BT scanner:

5DCC:
Valve (HSV2): Ground short circuit recognized.
Error will not cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have been completed

5DBC:
Valve (USV1): Error with cyclical valve and relay test
Error will not cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have been completed

No clue though what causes them

WOW that sucks, I will pray they cover you bro, I am hoping my CPO covers this kind of thing, since I have 2 more years on that warranty.

almost positive CPO would cover it, but I have Alpha Warranty.. partnered/brokered through carfax/carchex. I filed the claim, they are currently talkin to my SA, so im just waiting to hear.

codes thrown were:

5E40
Wheel speed sensor rear right: Signal edge missing (RDF-Typ 11i).
Error will cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have been completed

which is odd because I replaced that sensor 3 weeks ago and the problem is still there.. so dealer tells me its the SAS

I "feel" when the malfunction happens, i can count back from 10 and the lights will pop.. but it goes away after its shut off and only comes back sporadically (sp?)

WELL.. Just got off the phone with my SA. My warranty Co is covering $800 of it. SA said they wanted to send him a non-oem part. He explained that he can't install that so they cut the differance. My SA is the best MOFO in the world..

I'll hve the car back hopefully tonight..

Is your car lowered? Did they say it may have been related to lowering your car? I have the same issue. it occurred once i lowered my car. probably wont get covered by factory warrantee since my suspension has been altered

I had my steering angle sensor go bad as at about 15k miles on my car. So far it is the only thing I've had to have fixed under warranty.

i got the same malfunctions the other day while driving normally. i called BMW Assist which connected me to a BMW service center and they told me to get it to a service center as soon as i can.

i shut the car off and turned it back on, to find the codes cleared themselves but after the DBC and DSC malfunctions cleeared, the car told me brakes needed to be changed.

went to dealer the following monday to find the car said it needed brakes replaced in -397000 miles...

service tech ended up reprogramming, and now car feels fine/no codes. hopefully it'll stay that way.

I had continental warranty on my e46 M3, they were the best. I only had them for 2 months then my smg pump died. I think it was close to $3k to get it fixed, they paid everything I only paid my $100 deductible. When i'm out of warranty I am definitely going back to them.

So here's the deal.. total cost of repairs came to $1219. warranty paid $82x. Only cause they wanted to use a different part so they cut the differance. I paid $400. They also updated the software, which I love now!

I consider that a win in my book. Fully tuned TT BMW, with all the goodies still on, and still getting a warranty..

Best part was when they pulled my car around for me, I shut it off and switched back to map 7 while the tech was explaining the software upgrade

It's the only thing i've ever had done as well. I have no idea why they did it under waranty (there isn't a spec of the car that isn't modded), but after seeing what it costs, i'm sure glad they did. Glad you made it out in the ~4s

How do you resolve these codes?
