Here you will pay millions for a house and still you don't get a garage!
I find it amusing that people can't envision an expensive home without garage parking. There's a lot of damn-expensive homes around here (NY-Metro area) that don't offer garage parking. You could own a eight-figure brownstone and not even have a private driveway!

Same people that say everyone will just charge their EV at home. It just isn't possible for most in urban settings.

As far as carbon roof and not having garage parking. Just get a quality ceramic coating done, it will block a lot of harmful UV's that causes this type of damage. Years of neglect is the major factor behind peeling carbon roofs.

So true. And the city garages have monthly fees as expensive as apartment rentals in many cities.

I have no dog in this fight, since I most-likely won't be buying a G87. Having said that, as someone who likes a moonroof; I don't like this decision form BMW.

The carbon roof should have been standard on this car IMO, with the option for a moonroof. I think since so many in the U.S. like the CF, BMW know they can make money on this. That what is seems like to me, but who knows .

When the F87 first came out, there was no option for a moonroof. It wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I really didn't like that decision either. The option for a moonroof when it was offered for the LCI was $1050. Charging $2600 for a CF is because of the demand IMHO.

Agreed as it is nearly impossible to argue against the above.

Developing a CF roof isn't cheap.

If you want the CF roof standard it would simply increase the base price of the car, and not have the MSRP within a stones throw of F87 DCT.

Would you rather the car be $64,xxx and have the roof standard?

BMW knows not 100% of buyers want a costly option and ensured the base price stayed low for those that don't.

I guess. However, in Canada the car comes STD w/ the plain steel roof. Carbon roof is $1,900 CAD and Glass Sunroof is $1,500 CAD. Only $400 CAD difference between the two.

In the US you get the Glass sunroof STD. I guess specific markets calculate their margins differently including possible loss leader options.

$400 CAD is roughly $298 US; so theoretically, they could put the carbon roof as standard here for $300 added to the base price.

Theoretically they could have, but in reality they didn't.

In case it is helpful to anyone, I’m 6’-2” and was worried about headroom clearance for a helmet with the moonroof (and really didn’t want to spend $2600 for CF). So I met up with somebody I know with a new M240i to check it out. I actually have plenty of room with my helmet (and Simpson Hybrid S). So moonroof for me now.
