I just returned from the doctor and. . .
I have been diagnosed with M3 Fever! I am hoping a cure is found before it's too late and I take the plunge. Words of wisdom and encouragement are gladly being accepted. Thanks fellas!

So far I have stopped at the BMW dealer, I've been searching through Craigslist, The Auto Trader, and eBay; and I'm currently bidding on one on eBay, though the price will most likely exceed my self-imposed price ceiling.

Up to you. If you have $40k to blow I wouldn't be looking M3. I was recently shopping and found an M5 and an M6 vert, both under 75k miles, both under $25k. both with a much better growl than an M3. Just saying.

ok, I'll bite :)
Never easy trying to apply logic to a highly illogical decision but here goes....
The cheaper the M3, the less you have to lose. So lets say you compromise a little and buy a pretty nice 08/09 with like 60,000 miles for say, $27,000. Once M3s hit the mid $20's, they tend to hold a much higher % of their value. So you buy the 08/09 for $27k. Immediately spend $1500 on new crank bearings to protect your investment, plus another $1500 for other basic maintenance it may need and you are at $30k for your car. Drive and enjoy it for ... I don't know ...4 years, all while keeping it clean and well kept. At that point let's say the car now has 95,000 miles but still in good shape and with a recent maintenance history. Is it reasonable to presume you can sell the car for $22,000? Basing what I see well kept 100,000 mile e46 M3s, I would day that $22,000 is a safe(ish) bet. So for $8,000 in depreciation, you drove a lusty V8 M3 for 4 years. A new 335i would lease for approx $400/mo. That is $19,600 for 4 years. That is $11,600 more for the 4 years! The 335i will be cheaper to keep up, so lets call it $10,000 more. Is the new 335i literally worth double to drive over that 4 year period of time? Only you can be the judge...

I have absolutely no interest in a 335i. But I suppose, as a fallback, I could pay a visit to ESS Tuning (supercharger), as they are local to me. There are a couple of 2008 supercharged M3s for sale that are local to me. Hmmmmm...

335 can still make more power than ess m3. That was my plan when I was pricing it out and comparing.
