It’s not the dealers fault, they just facilitate communication between BMW corporate and you. If a part is not available then either you accept the alternative of you can choose to cancel your order. If this really bothers you, just cancel and wait until the M Illumination isn’t mandatory anymore, however long that will take.

There’s no ambient lighting in the door pocket where the cupholder is?? The 2022 had ambient lighting there!

Is there ambient lighting in the center console lid area above the center x2 cupholder? Also, does the tri-color M illumination dim when you change the dimming on the ambient lighting?

I care more about the behavior than $. my dealer/broker never responded any communication about illumination m trim even though I messaged them the option being added on my order status (hence why I asked here). I'm more than happy to wait 3 months or 12 for a car.

I'll get ya a firm answer in the brightness this weekend. My car is at the shop this week getting some work done.

It is a shame to being forced the M illuminated trim. Still going to order one but definitely not a fan.

Can someone confirm if you can turn it off or lower the brightness?

I do not believe you can turn it off. As I mentioned to Coconut I will definitely check on the brightness this weekend when I get my car back and get an answer.

I can't believe what direction Bmw is going in, it's awkward, it's tuning contest stuff for teenagers with Honda or Hyundai from 90's.
Anyway, you can easily retrofit the full gloss black trim from the M2, not sure about the door panels accent though.

The brightness adjustment does also work with the M illuminated trim. Just an update as I said I would check.

Yes, but I would prefer the standard old coloured trim without the M accents on the door panels.
I was thinking about a possible retrofit for the new M2, which has the M accents as standard on the doors panels (not a problem for the dashboard trim since it's in carbon fiber), but I'm not sure if and how it's doable.

If you read up on the thread I was answering some others questions regarding the trim. We have also debated on the carbon fiber trim and the dash does seem doable but you will lose the lighting and the m240 does not have the ambient strip underneath the dash piece like the m2. The doors I don't believe are something you can change, if it is possible I would guess it won't be cheap or easy.

i love the fact i'm getting the illuminated m trim. i dont drive night at all and the accents look sick. like with my past car, i may use the ambient lighting 1-2 times before never using it.

So it seems the ambient lights by the door cupholders are now gone. But what about the two tiny ambient lights on the headliner next to the dome lights?

I have not seen them in MY23. Only illumination I have seen are the door cards and the dash trim. Very little overall illumination. My Cooper was better illuminated!

Why do people want or need ambient lighting? I guess I just don't get it

Aesthetics...

Truth be told, once I got used to the lighting in the Cooper, I really didn't even notice it anymore as I never changed it

So, could definitely live without it especially since the 240 does not have much anyway.

I am curious what I have in mine. The only time I was in the car, the day prior to collection/stop sale, and I did not look carefully enough as I was overwhelmed with the screen and gear selection area. Saw the gloss black, but did not notice if it was illuminated or not.

From what I heard, there is no purple ambient lighting. Is this true with yours?

Well, I was wrong. I looked at a YouTube video of a 22 m240i and it had Lilac listed, and I would have sworn I saw purple when I first played around with the ambient lighting. But in my 23, I see:

Ivory
Citrine
Coral
Flamingo
Pearl
Turquoise
Emerald
Rose
Azure
They changed the colors with iDrive 8. Closest to purple now is that pink color. Very unfortunate… hopefully this can be coded back with BimmerCode

Any updates on getting the purple ambient light back with Bimmercode?

To my knowledge, at least on iOS, they don't officially support the G42 or iDrive 8 as of yet. I heard iD8 might be harder to crack… same for the 3-er LCI (with iD8) not officially supported yet
