How long in transit?

Forgive me if this has been answered already, I've tried finding an answer in other threads and have come up short.

How long was you vehicle "in transit" before you received it?

It seemed like a blink of an eye for my car to pass through the carrier assignment, dispatch, and the port to now in transit. Literally only a few days and the website was down for them haha.

I have attempted to contact my dealership but haven't heard back yet. Not to mention they were under the impression the car was being shipped from Germany, so I don't know how much weight I want to put into their answer. haha

Thanks!
Jay

Transit from destination port to Dealer? All depends on truck availability and any open work orders, but mine took ~2 weeks from Oxnard, CA to Seattle, WA with only 3 days of that being actual 'in transit' time up I5.

I cannot answer how long it will ultimately be in transit. However, I can give you an anecdotal piece of the puzzle. My car left the Veracruz port on the Glovis Crystal vehicle carrier vessel on Feb. 24. It arrived the next day just outside the Altamira port, and spent the weekend offshore (I assume waiting on a place to "land").

Today it shows as moored at the port, I assume to load more vehicles before coming to the States. BMW Genius originally told me it is scheduled to arrive at the Baltimore port on March 10. Seems unlikely now, but we shall see.

I had a similar response from a dealer i was working with, I went with a different more informed dealer that had an allocation.
I am amazed at the uninformed new BMW salespersons there are out there...I could see it if was a dealer that handled like 3-4 different makes, but a specialty dealer like BMW tells me that well, many are salespersons first and not necessarily well informed. True, the M240 is not a large volume seller, but the news of the NEW plant in San Luis Potosi has been big news from BMW for some time. Where have these BMW sales people been hiding?

My build is on the same ship. Per the dealer, as of last Saturday it was due in NY/NJ on 3/15.

Would be nice to know why it has been in Altamira so long.

The reason why most CAs are under the impression that the new g42 is built in Europe is because normally in our DAR pipeline, when a car is built in Mexico . It will say "NA" (North America) behind the model name. So it will read like, "m240icoupNA" but I've noticed that the m240i's don't read that way in the pipeline and I've also heard that some (not many) are built in Europe.
Same with X3's that are built in South Africa . It will be like "X3s30iSA".

Even my center sales manager that is Highly knowledgeable of BMWs and grew up around them his whole life (his dad is the sales director for 25yrs) thought they was all being built in Europe.

So I finally heard back from the dealership. They still think the car is coming from Germany but told me the ship it is on.

Glovis Crystal. When you look up the info on the Glovis Crystal, its literally sitting at the port in Mexico.

Anyone know of the best place to check to see when our ship is due to arrive at the port here in the US?

All G42 are made in Mexico, ALL.

Europe units comes to Germany first in order to pass Quality Check, nothing else.

Contact the BMW Genius via phone or email and they can tell you. I checked yesterday and was told the ETA to Baltimore is March 17 (originally was told March 10).

Also, the Crystal left port overnight and is now on the way to the States!

also anyone have a dealer thinking their 240i is coming from Germany.. just has to look at the VIN.. there are country codes of origin pretty sure all 240i's vins start like this "3MW...." where the 3 represent Mexico, if your VIN starts with "W" the car is made in Germany

Incorrect

Repeating the same.. believe me, all G42 are currently being produced ONLY in Mexico for entire world.

The pos 11th of the VIN identifies the code of the production plant.
Between 12 and 17 position, you can decode the position within the production process.

First positions indicates where the vehicle will be finally processed, not produced, so, for Europe that indicates BMW Germany because all of Europe market BMW produced or not, out of Germany plants, goes to Germany to pass the quality checks before sending to dealer.

G87 Produced in San Luis Potosi, then trucked (assuming) to Port of Lazaro Cardenas, the it stops at believe in San Diego, definitely Long Beach, and then to Port Huenume in Oxnard. Then it's trucked to local dealers in So Cal for further transports to other regions. I'm assuming everything in US comes out of Port Hueneme. With the logistics crunch, I expect couple of weeks wating and getting from plant to port, then rolling dice on when ship comes, it's less than a week to get up to Port Hueneme. My G87 shows status ready for transport on 9-15-23 so it's waiting for a ride to the port, it's a long distance if you look at the map. Then it's waiting at port for next available ship which is been constrained with WW logistics. I audited an shipping company and the inland train transposition, life line to the world. I'm giving it 3 weeks to get from plant to port, so that's ealry October, a month wait at port, then ships so the earliest would be mid to late November, if not December assuming no other catastrophes.

Anyone seeing any different?
