M2 loses all its fun without RWD though
Imagine a world, where BMW was able to create an xDrive system, that a touch of a button, it could become rwd only if you so desired…

I think there are reasons for this. That's not to say there aren't great guys in the local BMW chapter, there are! But there's also some major twat waffles.
And honestly, for me…I just want a nice car to drive to work and home…probably run a few quick errands. I am not trying trying to win the Indianapolis 500. I want to be able to do these things in a nice car that makes me happy. I don't spend my money on anything else. Haven't gone on a vacation in years, I don't spend on designer clothes, don't go out to fancy restaurants.

Cars are my only vice and its not like I have owned a lot of them so this next one…I will splurge and get one that puts a smile on my face whether its 2WD or 4WD.

Excatly - just imagine!

"but the Xdrive adds weight" will be the next counter from the forum keyboard warriors.

M2 has to be Xdrive. Otherwise it would be slower 0-60 than M240, and that simply can't happen.
And while we all agree about steering feedback, dynamics, "fun", etc., that is not how typical customer thinks when buying. Typical customer will not buy an expensive "fast" car that is slower than a cheaper "fast" car from the same brand! Hence, Xdrive…

0-60mph is irrelevant, I don't think the average M2 customer is too bothered about that. Besides, look at the G8x platform, how grippy the cars are despite only having RWD.

I'd much rather have RWD M2 even if it's slower to 60 than an xDrive 240i.

Here's a novel concept...let ME the consumer choose if I want AWD or RWD!

Launch control systems on everything has definitely diminished the relevance of 0-60 times. I wish 5-60 or 20-80/100 times would become the standard since that is much more relevant to day to day driving.

I'd much rather have RWD M2 even if it's slower to 60 than an xDrive 240i.

Here's a novel concept...let ME the consumer choose if I want AWD or RWD!
Who says you won't have that option? Do y'all really think BMW would please both camps with the larger M3/M4 and somehow overlook the smaller car where consumers care even more about the weight/transmission? You'll get your manual/rwd option, but please stop crying about others having the auto/awd choice as well.

That was my point. I have no problem
With both options.

Here is even more novel concept - it is not about you or 150 people on this board but what the whole market wants. I am pretty sure BMW did some research before deciding which direction to go…

Which is why I think they will have a RWD option or as standard. If they offer xDrive then great someone will buy it.

This is a good point.

I must admit I would feel pretty smug burning rwd M2s in my M240i Xdrive.

M240i is amazing but it's more of a GT or sporty car then a track car. I wouldn't balk at AWD on the 240i as a DD. Makes sense in half the country. Doesn't hurt that they get out of the hole outrageously quick.

Agree, I'm loving the launch of my 240, no need to launch control either, it pulls well from idle at the lights. And it feels every bit a rwd as it only sends torque forward when it needs to, under hard launch or hard accel out of a corner. 90% of the time it's only using the rears.
