A bit off topic
Does the new 2 platform also have a dual pivot / wishbone setup up front end like the 3?

M2 loses all its fun without RWD though
Imagine a world, where BMW was able to create an xDrive system, that a touch of a button, it could become rwd only if you so desired…
On paper yes- but my experience is the added weight of… okay I just need to shut up. It's RWD when it's disengaged.

No need for xDrive, RWD traction is excellent with soft compound tires. Also, heavier cars regardless of RWD or AWD will understeer more than the lighter variants, eat through tires and compromise overall driving sensation.

Learn to control the slides, learn to explore the traction limits. It will make you a safer and a better driver and you will have a whole new sensation never felt with all the traction nannies. Go get a self driving Tesla if you want the car to do everything for you. M2 is a wrong car for street posers.

Not sure if your statement is accurate.
Per BMWNA website:

M440i xDrive : 382 HP , 0-60 4.3 seconds ; Weight : 3858 Lb
M4 (RWD) : 473 HP, 0-60 4.1 Seconds ; Weight 3820 Lb

The same way:

M240 xDrive : 382 HP , 0-60 4.1 seconds ; Weight 3784 Lb
M2 (RWD) : ~ 450 HP , 0-60 < 4.1 seconds (probably 4 seconds) ; Weight : ~ 3600-3700 Lb?

Edit: M240 xDrive 0-60 in 4.1 seconds

M2 (RWD) : ~ 450 HP , 0-60 < 4.5 seconds (probably 4.2 or 4.3 seconds) ; Weight : ~ 3600-3700 Lb?
Car and driver is getting 3.8s out of the 40i cars with x drive. Pretty bonkers.

I think it will be AWD which can also behave as a RWD. I'd be fine with that!

Yes that is exactly what is happening. Member ynguldyn has already said he has nothing telling him xdrive will be available.

Have you noticed that a lot of the same folks on this forum are saying 2 things:

1) WE DEMAND XDRIVE and DCT!!!!!!! ....and then....

2) THE G87 M2 IS GOING TO WEIGH TOO MUCH!!!!

Really people????

And here I was thinking that's what they did with the M4CSL

What would be the likelihood of the same thing happening with a G87 CS/CSL

To my knowledge the first letter..example S58B30T0 stands for:
S-Model family. S being a BMW M road car engine.
5-Stands for Cylinder count. 5= Inline 6
8-Technical highlight. Valvtronic etc
B-Fuel type
30-Displacement. 3.0L etc
T-Power level. T meaning Top
0-Revision. Meaning original engine design..1-9 meaning revised/minor to major

Hope this helps

M440i xdrive vs. M240i xdrive
- same engine
- same transmission
- both xdrive
- 240 is 80 lbs lighter

...yet slower...

How?

Exactly my point. If it's been widely established G87 is definitely coming as RWD/manual first, so why are the "purists" bitching that BMW could potentially ALSO offer a AWD/Auto version down the line?

C&D tested the M440i xdrive at 3.8 0-60 and the M240 xdrive at 3.6. I don't take 0-60 times on most manufacturers websites all that literal. It's often just marketing nonsense to make one model appear superior to another even within their own brand.

Well, a lot of "purists" want RWD&DCT instead for the "auto" option, and going AWD destroys any chance of such drivetrain from happening. BMW took the shortcut for the M xDrive and decided to slap in ZF8, which just isn't exciting to drive, evidenced by threads after threads of xhp tuners trying to emulate DCT shifting by breaking their transmission.

Check out the new 911 Sport Classic. Turbo engine, manual gearbox, RWD.

Are you still hoping for a G87 with DCT?
