Not QUITE related, but better here than starting another thread:

Supra manual's take rate better than expected

High manual take rate can only be good for all MT lovers. Sure, the Supra is only a quasi-competitor to the M2. But I figure it still improves the odds of MT being an option through the LCI. I'm all for it.

I would like to know the length of the highest gear of both mt and aut versions. Would you mind sharing the revs at 60, 80 and 100 mph?
Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know what you are asking.

If you are asking what the observed RPM is in the Supra, I don't know, sorry.

Nor do I know the RPMs for the automatic M2, sorry again.

At 80 MPH, the manual M2 is roughly 2900 RPM, you can do the math to scale that ratio to any speed you want.

Because I'm a little bit of a nerd, here's the math for the MT:

Quote:
RPM / gear ratio / final drive ratio / rear tire revs per mile * 60 = MPH
On the MT, 6th gear ratio is 0.846, final drive ratio is 3.462, and revs per mile is 755.

Doing the math, at 80MPH the theoretical RPM is 2948. That matches my real world observation, so yay the math works!

Using math, 60MPH is 2211 RPM, 100 would be 3685 RPM.

And while this was not your question, if we care about acceleration, we can consult the dyno graphs.

In 6th gear, the G87 will start to "hit the wall" at about 6000 RPM start to lose vs. ever increasing drag. That's 162 MPH, and it's probably above the highest speed you could ever get on a track unless it's an airfield. 162MPH is above the default limiter anyway (155 MPH), and not much below the unlocked limiter (177MPH).

Of course real racers never use overdrive gears. What you'll probably do instead is stay in 5th and ride the S58 up to 7000 RPM (160 MPH). That's your realistic real-world top speed in most cases, I'd bet.

Im talking about the M2.
Thanks for the info.

Anyone with an automatic M2, what is the observed RPM at 80MPH, in 8th gear?

Automatic's final drive ratio is 3.154. 8th gear ratio is 0.640.

Using the same math, 80MPH should be 2032 RPM. Since I don't own an automatic, I can't verify, but that feels about right.

Agreed. If they made a manual M240i I would’ve just gotten one of those instead of an M2. But, they don’t… so, M2 it was!

Even worse... I got a M240 thinking the AWD was an okay trade off vs manual and full M. 240 is a great car, but after less then a year I have a G87 on order.

Other folks have different subjective values, but for me I missed the manual enough to take a financial hit trading up.
