Benefits of carbon roof and bucket seats

Totaling approximately $6000 USD.

Benefits I could think

- carbon roof lower center of gravity, more head room than sunroof.
- carbon seats is more in control, merino leather. Might not be comfortable for long drive, like more than 2 hours
- Coolness

Others? Please

40 lbs of weight saving with those two, 5-point racing seatbelts can be used with carbon seats without modification, better resale value, actually more comfortable due to the difference between merino vs. vernasca (hard) leather, lower seating position.

Cf roof: lighter, looks better (obviously, subjective)

Buckets: looks, yes, merino leather but not the benefits of full merino seats; beyond that, cant add much

Recaro makes some great seats that are functional and far more comfortable. Just sayin'...

Buckets look cool but just didn't find them comfortable. Can't imagine long drives with them. But definitely weight savings and better resale.

Roof saves weight and a nice contrast in looks. No cons on that one imo.

Correction...buckets actually hurt resale.

Good thing I plan to never sell, it's the only reason I got the carbon pack, I love the carbon seats. I prefer to sit low, and find them ergonomically more comfortable.

As a general rule on this forum, can we stop saying things have better resale value if they cost more money? Lol. You're paying an extra $10,000 to get carbon seats.

And carbon interior trim, and carbon roof, and a raised top speed with the m drivers pack...... But yeah I basically paid 10k extra for seats and a few things I would have never optioned otherwise.

Edit, if the seats were a la cart I'd have optioned them instead, and wish it were that way.

Not exactly.. Carbon bucket (4,500) + Carbon roof (2,600) + carbon trim (800) + M driver's package (2,500)=10,400. Saving $500 on two of the options (roof and trim) most people get.

Seeing how E92 M3s with competition package (wheels, suspension, higher speed limit, etc) goes $7K on avg. more than regular equivalents, I would say it is worth the value.

You’re paying $10,000 more to get $7,000 at resale. Soooo, you’re netting out -$3,000. Crazy.

And $2,500 for the M drivers package...thats a hefty donation to BMW.

The E92 comp package is way different than some optional seats. I had a C7 Corvette before which was also offered with fancy competition seats very similar to the carbon buckets.

The Z07 Track Pack? Definite resale value.

The Competition Seats? Nope

I'm actually ok with the drivers package, I wouldn't option it but am definitely going to schedule it and redeem it.

My point was competition package cost $2,500 back in the day, but now it adds $7K value to the overall car price. I'm not sure how much the carbon package will to M2s, but seeing how GT4s with carbon buckets get a hefty premium (definitely $10K over the sport seats) I think it will pay off in the long run.

Nobody really knows what M driver's package does, other than the fact that it comes with a different tune for higher top speed and a driving school program. I tend to agree with it being expensive, but it has its merits to some.

Its crystal clear what it is. Its also not a different tune, its just a limiter for top speed (should you need to exceed 160mph). It has no effect on hp, torque or trans tune. Certainly not worth $2,500.

I’ve read all the pros and cons but bottom line is personal preference. They’re not on my build and cost wasn’t a factor. We happen to enjoy drives with an open roof in great weather and the seats could be a factor for older (I mean experienced ) owners. Opinion: I believe carbon seats would be a tougher sell than leather to next buyer.

Correct.

If the seats didn't have that ridiculous hump in the middle, I would have ordered the full carbon pack. Then, the seats really would only have been an additional $4900 or so. (Because I ordered the carbon roof and M Driver's package).

But I've driven M3s with the carbon buckets, and that hump is not just annoying, but gets in the way of leg movement when shifting manually.

And by the way, the M Driver's package comes with a free BMW track day ($1,300 or so worth of value), which I want to do anyway. So I got that and the weight saving (and cool looking) carbon roof.
