I would say they are easier to deal with if the door is longer (M2, M4) but made more challenging if the car is lower (M8) or the B-pillar relative to the steering wheel is shorter (M3, M5CS). In all platforms, the one click door opening is harder than two (tight parking). But in all cases, just program seat memory 2 to a less aggressive seating position and you’ll be good. Overall, I wouldn’t specifically not spec them.

This. People complaining about the M bucket seats clearly haven't sat in one of these (which causes pain precisely because it is ergonomically shaped, and most peple's bodies are distorted one way or the other.) Honestly the side bolsters are so low in the M bucket seats they just feel like Porsche sport plus seats to me.

Proper bucket seat:

Proper bucket seats at 7kg for the carbon fibre version:

Went to cars.com to see what used G87s are going for and to see if there's a correlation between seats. The only one with the buckets is $84,000, the rest have the couch seats. The buckets car is more expensive than the other ones but who really knows what it will sell for. It looks like all used G87s are trading at over MSRP and will be for the foreseeable future as the car market is all sorts of wacky right now.

If you plan on having kids in the back, would you spec it with carbon buckets? I am afraid the kids will just fuck up the seats.

This is a super minor thing, but carbon buckets are thinner (front to back) than the normal seats. It actually gives you just a little more space in the back for rear passengers.

I feel it's unlikely anyone speccing carbon buckets plans to have frequent passengers, but you never know.

In our 435i GC my kid used the kick the F out of the passenger seat and they still do it in our 5 now. I think I won’t spec the carbon seats

It’s likely! I specifically chose this car because I can feel like I have a manual trans race car, and be able to take my 4yr old with me wherever I go, otherwise I would just have done a gt4

All the reviews seem to love the carbon buckets... Makes me want to add them, but it feels silly to add them given I will track it (autocross mostly) like 8 times a year. Are they really worth it? (Basically only thing I don't have speced)

FOMO is real here.

It’s a secret that the package nets you a 0.2 second faster 0-60, no one has reviewed a driver package car yet, that’s why you don’t know.

I personally love them, yes they are not enjoyable to get in/out of, but when sitting in them they are sublime. I think they have just enough padding, and great ergonomics. The big benefit is the seating height (feeling like your seat is about to scrape against the ground is half the fun), and there's a little bit more road feel through the seat than I expected.

Edit: it has been noted that the ergonomics are less enjoyable if you have pre-existing posture trouble. I personally have decent posture, and enjoy the ergonomics, I could sit in the seats all day, but I can see how the previous statement can be true, since there is limited padding to offer more forgiveness.

8x a year is more than enough to justify it in my opinion.

I agree, that’s likely more than most…and I don’t think you need any reason to justify them. Cool is cool 😎. Should help resale too.

Cars like this are about how they make you feel. Now literally, they may make you feel bad at times, lol - but I moreso mean, if you feel good because you have something special, even if you don’t do track days every weekend- that’s enough justification for me.

Ugh... FOMO increasing!

How do your significant others feel about the carbon buckets? No complaints about getting in and out?

Definitely complaints, but practice seems to help. Getting in is way easier from the passenger seat, because on the driver's you have to avoid both the bolster and the wheel. Getting out is definitely tough, but there's been times I thought "hey, that was better than the other time" but I didn't pay attention to what I did. I'm hoping I start to pay attention more and build the muscle memory for the more efficient ways. Than maybe I will know a trick to tell passengers that I know is effective and universal.

It's part of the package. She knew I was a gearhead when she said yes

The car hasn’t arrived yet.
I drive a lifted Tacoma also, and she hates going “out” having to get in and out of it, and can’t wait for the car to arrive. I made it very clear to her, this is different, but you will be equally as irritable with either vehicle, I promise.

To ZPDs point, you knew that all my vehicle choices would be dramatic. Be happy you’re not forced on one of my motorcycles instead.

Yeah there is no way I could tell my wife, “just practice” or “you’ll get used to it”. So as much as the buckets look great and are badass, that was a deal breaker. Also was a bit concerned about the crotch bulge + MT combo given how often that was called out in reviews.

Went with the carbon roof though because 1) it looks badass, 2) I don’t want a sunroof in my car, 3) more headroom.

Concerning the m/t and leg divider (or crotch bulge) it doesn't bother me. My legs are somewhat skinny though. I used to drive with my phone there though so I sometimes think it's my phone. I also drive with my knees turned out slightly which pulls my legs away from the divider.

Also not sure how tall you are. As one YouTuber pointed out, seems like all the reviewers mentioning the bulge are shorter. But I’m also short

I'm short too, I sit with my seat slightly closer than most my height would so I can have a little more leverage by turning my knees out slightly, which just so happens to keep my knees away from the bump.

Here's a question:

Recarro has similar seats without the buldge and slightly easier ingress and egress. Will they custom build a set in Cognac to match my interior?

My wife is pretty small, about 5'2" on a good day. Complaints about getting in and out go away about a month into ownership. You do it enough times it becomes second nature. I'm about 8 inches taller than her and it's totally fine as well.
