Look, I'm not writing a memorandum online. If sunroof were a more popular option for a majority of used M buyers, wouldn't they command a premium instead? You get my point, why the nitpick?

Ok. You do realize M carbon roof is standard on M3/4s and sunroof is optional at no cost right? Where's the market with those?

If majority of these folks are not willing to option sunroofs despite the fact, what makes you think more sport oriented G87 folks do?

I realize I’m not the target demographic for the G87 (I’m an old lady)but I can say that if the carbon roof came standard and the moonroof was an option, I’d pick the moonroof option. One, because I actually like driving with the moonroof open when the weather is nice, but mainly because a guy at my office has a beautiful M3 with a carbon roof that looks like caca. It’s yellowed and peeling, and that deters me from having something like that on a car that I plan on keeping for many years.

Every fact starts as a claim or an opinion, and you are asking me to provide data that's fairly easy to obtain. For one, out of 44 people in this forum who reported ordering the car, only 1 person specced a sunroof. I encourage you to ask dealerships to provide concrete data to confirm what you perceive to be an opinion.

That statement hasn't proven itself true in M used market. Glass moonroof was a $1050 option on the E46 M3. Slicktop E46 M3's are more rare and command a premium. The option cost doesn't necessarily translate to what value a vehicle has in the future.

I feel for people who have to keep cars outside.
The carbon roof on my 2011 M3 is still new. Quote:

Or do you think you'd like to see your car with the carbon roof? If it pleases YOU, do it. This whole nonsensical conversation these guys are having is the same one a car salesman will have with you, pressuring you to order "black seats" because the used car market is stronger with them. And you never bought your nice red seats because of that guy... Options are there, let's enjoy them. So what if anecdotal evidence suggests one colour or feature "adds value" later? All said and done, you buy a car you didn't like hoping one day it'll be easier to sell, only to be hit from behind from someone on their phone, and any "3k" claim will dissuade these folks from buying your car or paying the premium you expected. So you didn't enjoy your car and didn't get the expected benefit you were hoping. Enough with this nonsense (not referring to you). |

Sun is undefeated over time. Especially in some parts of the country. if you have to keep your car in the elements year-round maybe not a good idea to get carbon. if you like it and you can garage your car there is no issue. It will always look beautiful.
