This may come as a surprise but you don’t represent all used “M” buyers. Imagine that.
Look, I'm not writing a memorandum online. If sunroof were a more popular option for a majority of used M buyers, wouldn't they command a premium instead? You get my point, why the nitpick?

The sunroof would command a premium if the initial cost was higher which it is not.

It’s not complicated Skippy.

Ok. You do realize M carbon roof is standard on M3/4s and sunroof is optional at no cost right? Where's the market with those?

Those cars appeal to different buyers. This is a G87 thread. Stay focused.

Yes you say, those are GT cars, with customers who care relatively more about comfort (having a sunroof) than outright performance (m carbon roof). Your point of price differential is already invalid at this point, because we took that out of the equation despite the folks being more GT oriented.

If majority of these folks are not willing to option sunroofs despite the fact, what makes you think more sport oriented G87 folks do?

I realize I’m not the target demographic for the G87 (I’m an old lady)but I can say that if the carbon roof came standard and the moonroof was an option, I’d pick the moonroof option. One, because I actually like driving with the moonroof open when the weather is nice, but mainly because a guy at my office has a beautiful M3 with a carbon roof that looks like caca. It’s yellowed and peeling, and that deters me from having something like that on a car that I plan on keeping for many years.

I am 6'4" with 25 inch+ wide shoulders and I got to sit in a 240i. It had great shoulder room and space in the front. Rip rear passenger, but that's the case in any car behind me except my TRX. It was as spacious for me as my M4, and more so in shoulder room. Head room was fine but sitting in the car is what made me go for the carbon roof vs the sunroof as with the sunroof, in my upright driving position, my head could just brush the roof at certain angles.

You will be fine!

Blah blah blah. You’re full of words. You’re full of opinions. You’ve proven nothing. Time to bounce.

Every fact starts as a claim or an opinion, and you are asking me to provide data that's fairly easy to obtain. For one, out of 44 people in this forum who reported ordering the car, only 1 person specced a sunroof. I encourage you to ask dealerships to provide concrete data to confirm what you perceive to be an opinion.

That statement hasn't proven itself true in M used market. Glass moonroof was a $1050 option on the E46 M3. Slicktop E46 M3's are more rare and command a premium. The option cost doesn't necessarily translate to what value a vehicle has in the future.

I'm sure we all know who the dog is. You've been making personal accusations for most of the posts while I elaborated on my stance. So who's wasting space?

Have a nice day.

Yes we do. Have a Milkbone for lunch.

You supported your position with nothing more than baseless opinions. Arf arf

This is way too easy. I’m out.

More data points. SMG was a $2400 option on E46 M3, manual M3's pull a premium. Navigation was a $1350 option on E9x M3, single hump E9x M3's hold more value. I could go on. I see you are new to the forum(maybe the BMW scene as well), you just aren't well versed in past BMW M market.

I feel for people who have to keep cars outside.
The carbon roof on my 2011 M3 is still new.

New to the forum, that’s correct. Don’t assume anything else that might embarrass you.

I feel like I’m being peer pressured into adding the carbon roof. I have a week 42 build, would adding it push my build back? Would my CA be able to tell if it was going to get pushed back or is it just a gamble?

Do what you like. What car would you rather drive? One with a sunroof, or one without one?
Or do you think you'd like to see your car with the carbon roof?

If it pleases YOU, do it.

This whole nonsensical conversation these guys are having is the same one a car salesman will have with you, pressuring you to order "black seats" because the used car market is stronger with them. And you never bought your nice red seats because of that guy...

Options are there, let's enjoy them. So what if anecdotal evidence suggests one colour or feature "adds value" later? All said and done, you buy a car you didn't like hoping one day it'll be easier to sell, only to be hit from behind from someone on their phone, and any "3k" claim will dissuade these folks from buying your car or paying the premium you expected. So you didn't enjoy your car and didn't get the expected benefit you were hoping.

Enough with this nonsense (not referring to you).

Very true, I don’t think I’d use it often but I love the color matched roof. Wish we could spec it like that in the states. Also never really realized carbon roofs on M cars was such a big deal

Sun is undefeated over time. Especially in some parts of the country. if you have to keep your car in the elements year-round maybe not a good idea to get carbon. if you like it and you can garage your car there is no issue. It will always look beautiful.
