I would have been pleased to see the new M2 simply match the CS. But to see such a huge improvement in lap times from the pinnacle of the F87 to the entry level G87 is impressive!

BMW ///M No, no, no, get those shitty cast wheels off the M2 and put on some 827M's FFS.

Improvements are always good, but to be fair, a couple of points:

1- the G87 doesn’t have “versions”, so we can’t say it’s the “entry level” car yet. Newer versions will improve on performance. IMO
2- I don’t think the F87 ever had Cup2 tires, right? So the CS and the G87 are matched with same Cup2 tires (albeit a bit wider in the G87, and exclusively mounted on the CS). This explains why it runs like a CS in terms of time (improving a bit due to more grip likely and more speed because of more power).

Things to consider. A G87 CS would likely be similar to the G80 CS we saw, so about 10 seconds quicker.

Non-cast wheels will be included int the CS weight loss marketing.

I think forged wheels would be a given, but looking at the M3 and M3CS prices, the premium is about 2/3 extra before adding the CCB option. If the M2CS follows the same pattern, I would think a similar premium together with a similar power output and automatic only configuration would be likely.

That would mean base prices in the respective markets of about USD$105K, CAD$135K or GBP£100K.

Can you post the the F87 M2 CS laptime by BMW M Factory driver as well please?

Christian Gebhardt for instance who made a laptime with the M2 CS did 7:43. But thats far from factory drivers lap times. He has at least 5-10 secs difference in comparison with Factory race drivers. https://uk.motor1.com/news/518618/am...rburgring-lap/

He is a great driver but he is not like factory drivers.

If I am not mistaken, that time set by the M2CS was made on the 'short' track, while that of the G87 on the longer track. Which means another 4-5 seconds difference.

Both G87 and F87 were tested from BTG. You can see it the videos of both although i cant find the full laptime of the G87 it seems in the end that it finishes at the same spot.

You have to consider where the lap starts, and I confirm that the F87 was tested on the 20.6 km track and the G87 on the 20.8 km track (it is clearly shown in the video at 2:28).

Here you can see where the short track begins and where the long track begins (at the beginning or end of the first straight).

True. Got your point , i thought you were talking about the straight or the GP track. It could be much simpler if they all were measuring the whole track. Sure , the G87 is as expected faster than the F87 just like every car its faster to its older one. Just like a 991 GT3RS was to the 997 GT3RS for instance. A bit bigger and heavier but much faster. Technology moves on , everything gets faster by time. Its fast until the next one. See 992. Faster doesn't mean better , by that terms the E30 M3 would be garbage. Ah and i know which one i would choose out of the 997 and 991. Not to speak for the 992 which takes performance on just another level - So refined that is just too easy , boring on the road even , needs a track to extract its character.

But there isnt better or worse , i really think each one of us have a sweet spot , a car he/she thinks that ticks all of the boxes. And thats the beauty after all.

I totally agree with you, but I would not attach too much importance to the Ring times, they are a pleasant subject to discuss among car enthusiasts, but far from being a scientific measure for several reasons.
And I also agree that 992 is a "too perfect" car to be desirable for me (excluding GT3, although I would still take a raw Mezger 997 over any other), but it is a matter of personal tastes.

Pretty good time. Not quite as quick as I was hoping, but at the end of the day lap times don't matter. That puts it around a 7:34.5-7:35 in the 20.6km Sport Auto config
