Oil Level After Pan Gasket Service
Just did my pan gasket last weekend. Used RTV and seems to be holding well. See no wet spots on my lower shield or wet spots on the ground. Replaced oil sensor with genuine one (btw the new sensor, at least genuine, comes with a new gasket).
I go into town Sun night, checking the level at my destination. Reads at Max, nice. Added 6.9 quarts. Next day Mon arriving at work I check, and it is one notch above Min. I monitor and it stays at one notch above Minimum. I then add a half a quart on Wednesday expecting it to go up to halfway on the bar. Check it at work Wednesday and it is one notch below Max. Then I check it yesterday arriving at work and it says it is at Max. Check leaving work and it is at halfway and has been at halfway since. Does the sensor adapt or something? Could it be a bit lower than 6.9 quarts? As I did allow the oil pickup to drain entirely until nothing was dripping out. |

The spec capacity is supposed to be 6.5L or 6.9 qts. I typically add 6.5 qts after oil change and have the oil level show up as 1/2.
If you added 6.9 qts + 0.5 qt, then you have 7.4 qts in there now. Even if you left it dripping the engine cannot drain more than the max capacity 6.9 qts out of there. Maybe that sensor is not measuring right? FCP would have lifetime replacement for it. |

Just let it settle down until the next oil change. Don't get obsessed with minor variations in readings.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
