Thank you BMW for a design I can live with. Much better than most of the new cars BMW is putting out today.

I wouldn't trade for a 230i. You'll miss the power. M240i, sure. Any new G Chassis will be a lot more insulated of a drive than an E89. Kind of takes some fun out of it IMO. Both 230i and M240i are awesome current gen cars.

The triangles take some getting used to, but the front of this car definitely has 2002 vibes to it. Glad to see BMW hasn't completely lost the plot.

Remember when 80% of the forum hated this car?
13.7 1/4 mile?? That's AWESOME for a 230. Not to mention the car is gorgeous...MSport or not. |

Engineering as always seems impeccable.
Design is at a a point where while not beautiful, at least it's not ugly. |

Confused by the statements around lack of competitors - what about Supra, Z, TT (guess we know this one is going away)

Interesting there's so much love for this car, yet the z4 got so much pause from C&D amongst others. Z4 is lighter, more nimble, brakes better etc. So what if it's made in Austria the 230 is made in Mexico.

BMW has def lost the plot on most of the model lineup. Let's hope they get it back…soon. |

I keep saying the 4 popper is really compelling. There is very little reason to buy the competition over it. The m240 is a tougher sell at least for me especially without a manual. And the M2 will have too much power for me to reasonably use.

While I'm not ready to accept your statements as true, I'm not here to challenge them. I'm here to point out that I believe the sales delta is related to the Z4 being a convertible. I'd guess most people buying a 2 Series use the vehicle as their only car; and a Z4 is simply less practical.

"I learn not to tangle with the kids in their big hot Mothers with the 500 horsepower engines unless I can get them into a tight place demanding agility, brakes, and the raw courage that is built into the BMW driver's seat as a no-cost extra."
I have a G20 330i, and the above statement applies just the same to that 330i, to the extent that my Model 3 friends(let down by hohum suspension) would swap for seat times to get extra fun on those imperfect tight places. |

I have a soft spot for the entry level "real BMW." Well, almost real in this case. Real BMW = 2 doors, stick shift, power to the back. Anyway, glad to see it's a performer. I actually think the less trinketed look of this car is better than the M240i variant. Would really be cool if they offered a stick. Would be even cooler if they made a super lightweight version with a beefed up 4 banger. Fuel economy is beyond impressive here. Sadly, I think this chassis is probably the end of the road for the entry level real BMW.

Can't wait for the M2. Anyone know if there will be a release date for the final product?

While not a coupe, I miss my little e90 328. Practical, sporty, 6MT fun all rolled into one awesome little package. That car felt like it was on rails. Lesson learned, keeping my F87 until the wheels fall off. That's said, really happy to see all the positive reviews on both the 230/240s.

You can not stretch your legs in the Supra or Z nor can you reckon the seat back on either of the front seats to rest or take a nap on a long road trip. Crash rating is beyond horrible on the new Z. Supra is beautiful on outside but like a coffin on the inside due to lack of space. Inside of Supra feels very claustrophobic. In a 2 series you can roll down the windows but see how much drone you get when you do that in a Supra or Z. BMW 2 series is a very very good car.

This car has character and substance
That the reviewer associated the overall character of the G42 230i with the 2002 is high praise. I think his overarching point is that this car passes the folkloric BMW purity test: a practical daily driver with good looks and loads of character that eggs on its driver to speed up at the sight of an upcoming bend in the road.
