Visiting Honolulu - advice needed please

Will be going to a convention next week and have 2.5 days to sightsee. I will only be visiting Oahu so island hopping is not an option.

Can I get some advice on must see places to visit and any local restaurants to try out? (besides Pearl Harbor obviously)
I will be staying at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio and most likely will not be renting a car.

TIA!!

Well if you like shopping you'll probably want to check out Ala Moana shopping center. It's pretty huge and has a nice food court, and there are lots of restaurants around there. It's not too far from Waikiki.

If you like beaches and fishes, then Hanauma Bay/Sandy Beach is nice. This is not within walking distance.

And yeah at Pearl Harbor you can check out the USS Arizona and Missouri.

If you want to try some Hawaiian food, then try going to Ono's in Kapahulu, Yama's fish market, or Young's fish market.

There are also a couple more shopping places, Ward Warehouse and Ward Center, close to Ala Moana. And many restaurants around there as well.

Hmm, anything else guys?

I'm currently a bum, so if you need a tour guide for a day, feel free to PM me. Two and a half days if definitely not enough, however, you can probably do most of the touristy stuff.

Now if I can only get someone to loan me their E90/E92 M! I know Ricky was looking to put some miles on his car.

Okay, I admit it! I actually drive a '88 Toyota Camry. I just wanted to fit in with all you guys who have the fancy M's and other Bavarian delights!

As for being a bum...I really am! I'm starting a new job at the end of October so until then, I'm a bum. I've been waking up at like 11 a.m. and watching tv all day. Of course, that's in between the naps and the snacking. Guess that 24 hour membership and my golf clubs are really hating me right now.

Seriously though, if anyone needs a short term volunteer or a low pay worker (for a good cause) feel free to PM me!

you're welcome. there are millions of other things to do, but i don't really do any of them. most of my time is spent working. and church. if you do happen to rent a car, a drive out to the north shore would be nice. lots of nice beaches along the way, and shrimp trucks. we do the north shore/shrimp run from time to time. there's also shark's cove (a protected fish area), and waimea bay. among other things.

What's a shrimp run, just drive out there to eat shrimp??

What do you recommend as the best local Hawaiian restaurant in Honolulu (we will be renting a car after all)?

A shrimp run is when we (E90post Members) get together a drive out to the North Shore and race back LOL!!

Here is my advise:

Because you only have a few days .... I would take one day and drive out to Pearl Harbor, then to Wahiwa and hit the Dole, Then drive out to Kahuku and get some good Kahuku Shrimp. On the way back I would stop off at Haleiwa and get some shave ice from Matsumoto Shave Ice.

For the second day I would just relax at Lani Kai Beach Park ... Lani Kai is one of the best beaches on Oahu. You'll find less people and more sand!!

I work in Waikiki so if you need help just PM me and I'll give you my info.

Are you here for the 150th ADA Session?

when you say best local hawaiian restaurant, do you mean local food, or specifically hawaiian food? if you meant hawaiian food, then it would be either Yama's or Young's. But they aren't really restaurants. More like a food kitchen that serves Hawaiian food. not really much seating area or tables. but i haven't been there in a while so i could be wrong on this.

and if you meant local food, pretty much any plate lunch place you see. there are tons.

Why don't you put it on here? I'm interested. I'm sure some of us would be too.
